OK, guys and gals, lets have a second look. The busy traffic level pushed this thread off the chart too soon. [ 30. August 2004, 11:40: Message edited by: Peirce ]
I am guessing 1993 or later. I make this guess soley based upon the design of the signal tower. It looks too "square" to be from the 50's Russ
I can't think of the last time I heard one of these locos was operated in excursion service. What Russ has mentioned has me convinced this was taken some date later than 1956! But 1993? I don't know....... Boxcab E50
The rail looks to be continuously welded rail, which I think is a little newer than the steam era, so I’m going with 1993. Something I’m not sure about is if that C&O logo on the tender is a give away. I've never seen that on C&O steamers before (not any of the broadway limited models at least), so I think its a newer addidtion. Anyone know for sure? [ 30. Charlie, that was done puposely. Good observations so far. Hint: Engine not wearing it's real number.
In October 1993, NKP #765 was dressed up as C&O #2765 to pull the New River Trains from Huntington to Hinton. That was the last season she operated before she went down for repairs.
Hey Ed, right on my friend. I see this is your first post on Trainboard, and sure welcome you and all of the 261 crew. It doesn't seem possible that it has been almost two months since putting the 261 back in the barn after such a successful excursion season. You guys are Aces. Keep it up. Yeah, that's NKP 765 disguised as C&O "2765" just outside of Thurmond, WVA on the New River Gorge trip in 1993. And, she has not run since, but will return later this year. How about posting some of the photos you and the other guys must have from this past summer's Grand Excursion with 261?
Way to go Ed!!!!!!! The C&O Logo on the tender didn't look right either at my first glance right now to this topic.
