Last Sunday my daughter and husband took the amtrak to From Sacrament to Reno. It must have been a good trip as they didn't say anything about it. BUT on the return trip Monday, the train was 1 hour late at Reno. Lost another hour at Colfax for track work and a couple of freights. It was a 6 hour trip from Reno to Sacramento. I can drive it in 2 1/2 hours. The wife and I had thought about taking the train to Reno but now NO WAY.
Guess next time I get a flat tire I'll quit driving my car forever. And of course there are NEVER delays on the highways due to accidents or construction. LOL!
Welcome aboard, Cajon. You make a good point. It doesn't take much to turn an interstate highway into a parking lot. Then you have to put up with all sorts of road rage, pollution, and who knows what else. On the train you can relax, take a nap, have another refreshment, or whatever.

Sorry for the duplicate - network problems. One can be deleted. PB [ 15. March 2003, 13:43: Message edited by: Peirce ]
Dick, I have taken that trip from the Sacramento to Reno many times on the train. I was lucky enought once to get a cab ride over the hill from an engineer friend of mine. I will tell you that from I-80 you WILL NEVER see all the wonderful views that you can see from the dome car of the Zephyr. And in the winter you sure will not have to chain up on the train. My wife and I lived in Reno for 6 years and with our familys in Calif we made the trip often. In the winter the trip was always on the train, late or not. And even sometime is the spring and fall because of the colors in the sierra nevada. Take your car if you want, pay the high gas prices, put up with all the dolts and idiots on the highway if thats what you like to do. But as for me I enjoy the ride and the views, there is nothing else like the train. By the way the winter delays are normally caused in the east due to the storms and snow. The railroads do not want to hold Amtrak up as they recieve a bonus for the train being on time at the last stop. Shannon WP LIVES
So the train was delayed, read another few pages of a book or magazine, relax & have something to eat or drink, or just PLAIN RELAX- if you were in your car on I-80 stuck in a traffic jam I doubt very much that you would be relaxing at all - probably tensed up instead.
