Does anyone know of a good all time roster source for ACFX tank cars? I am trying to identify a car in a photo (slide) I grabbed 40 years ago. The number on the car is _5374. The first number appears to be a 6. So is 65374 legitimate?
The ACFX 65300 series appears to be ACF 5711 or 5800 4-bay covered hoppers. I think these were built in the mid 80's, so unless your tank car was scrapped or renumbered right before these cars were built, I don't think the 6 digit is correct. What about 85300? Sometimes 8 and 6 can look similar, and I found 85302 on rrpicturearchives as a 26,600 gal tank car built in 1969. A definitive way to check would be to use a ORER book for the year you photographed the car.
Can you link in that picture you found? Or give me the link to it? An "8" is certainly possible. Wish I could read the gallons or weight for this car. It is a black, small single dome. The reason I cannot see the first number is the car is sitting on a turntable, and the arch blacks it, (side and end), from the angle taken.
This looks just like the car, but is it....? http://www.rrpicturearchives.net/showPicture.aspx?id=5090356
I don't think 85302 that I found is correct. It's a weird 4-truck Rail-Whale style car. http://rrpicturearchives.net/rsPicture.aspx?id=430383 Your photo of 85407 is probably more correct.
I tried an hour ago to sign up for: https://www.railcarphotos.com/ I'm still waiting for the registraction confirmation instructions email. ☻ Very cool car. Hmm, now that I think about it the Grey and Grandure may need 8 axil tank cars to carry liquified Mystrium.
