there's an interesting thread on the N scale forum about making snowplows out of heavy paper, or card stock. i'm thinking this could be a whole lot easier and provide better looking (more accurate and detailed) plows for our diesels than all the efforts to date.

Robert Ray, you made a snow plow kit that required some filing, etc., so what about laser cutting some heavy paper or 3x5 index card type cardstock into one or two (or three) plow styles (with cut-outs for the MU hoses)? these could be easily molded/bent into a nice curl and CA-ed to the front of a diesel.

accurate cuts and outlines would be easy for a laser, the cost almost nothing, and the profits to you (and benefits to the rest of us) would certainly warrant the run, in my opinion.

take a look at the thread in N scale, and see for yourself. with the new BLMA detailed MU hoses, we could really have some perfect looking detailed front ends!

    what say ye?

    Very neat idea!

I dabble in card stock modeling myself (have since I was a teenager 20 years ago).

The point about hardening the card stock up with ACC is a very good trick to pass along. I believe that is the technique that Lionel Gazeau uses as well.

I make all kinds of things out of #110 bond cardstock. For myself mostly! People feel like they are getting ripped off when they find something made of paper in their kits, so I have tried to avoid it in kits, but sometimes you just have to use it.

I will look into the plows out of cardstock as it is thinner and requires no filing.

thanks robert, i really do think this could be a great solution.

i've been remaking plows from IM N scale plastic plows. my problem is i can't cut out the MU hose openings so that the MU details can come through. our models are small enough that cardstock (CA reinforced) could be durable enough to look right, model easily and accomodate the extra details.

thanks for looking into it Robert.
