    Hey guys,
I just thought of something... Whats everyones favorite B&O loco, or predecesor loco?????

I'll have to say my name sake, the mighty B&O EM-1's preferably the "7600" that would be for my all time favorite.... Next inline would be the Western Maryland M-2's Challengers, preferably the #1201.... Both as a favorite Articulated/Mallet...

Rigid frame, The B&O "Big Sixes" the 2-10-2's S-1 class... any of these. OR the B&O P-7 Pacifics, preferably the President Washington #5300. And the Western Maryland J-1 "Potomacs", the 4-8-4's...

And to runner up to my all time favorite, goes to the Western Maryland number 6 Shay....To be right behind the B&O's EM-1's.

Diesels, the cab units...The B&O E-8's, or the Baldwin Sharks.... Wentern Maryland, hmmm good question... the F-7's in the Fireball sceme.

Hood units, the B&O GP-30's preferably the #6900. Western Maryland, The chop nose GP-9's in the red white an black "Circus" sceme

How about everyone else ??????? What you all have set as favorites ?

    Pat,
    That steamer is a B&O EL-5, a 2-8-8-0, #7170.. NICE choice in steam power!

As for the diesel... Also a good choice! I like the EM-1's for my all tyme favorite being my Grandfather engineered in a few of them, however he also engineered the EM-1 "7600" being the all time favorite an number of the loco!

    Good choices tho! [IMG]

    Alan,
Yes I know! it is in sad shape! Thats not from the B&O ownership, I will asure you when that was filly B&O numbers an all it was in the 6900 series an in alot better shape!

Thats a "beater" so to speak for CSX being it was probably headed for the -30M program an ended up being rebuilt into a road slug or road mate....With its prime mover removed, an electricals changed an the traction motors left on the trucks. And then repainted an
    renumbered again.

However they weren't cut down! They left them as is..... And took all the long hood doors off an plated it in flush with flat steel.Removed the prime move as I said, an I believe filled the body up with concrete for weight, and left the fuel tank on it to keep the mother unit tanks always toped off (like a AUX tender was for a steamer.) And was run like the cut down slugs were. Mated to a real unit with a prime mover, an its traction motors ran off the mother loco. They more or less took a standard GP loco with 4 axles an extended the traction range with a slug to 8 powered axle for slow lugging freight.... I can't remember what the speed restriction was tho for the Road slugs.. As I know some here will be able to say....

    My old hardcover "B & O Power, 1829-1964"
by Larry Sagle & Alvin Staufer, is my encyclopedia, thesaurus, and Bible of favorite locomotives.
They are pretty much ALL my favorites, but for old-time engines, [not really mentioned here yet], it would be Ross Winans' 0-8-0 Camelbacks.  [IMG]

    Mike,
I'd sure love to model one of the Winnans "Camels" 0-8-0 for old tyme sake an a good conversation piece to a fun run train show!

I too agree with the old B&O Power book I got the original copyright of it which is old an worn out! But it too is my theasurus an B&O Bible! I try to model loco's in HO scale that are in that book! Thing is, I just wish they had made a in-color copyright to B&O Power.... That would GREAT! Alvin & Larry done a wonderfull job at capturing the loco's in photographs as a sort of "roster" book for the B&O!
