Call me crazy, but I have embarked on a rather massive project. Taking a cue from Jerry LaBoda's brilliant Passenger Car Index, I decided to make a site that is a Rail Preservation Index. The site is currently organized by railroad with some future methods to eventually happen (but considering how far along I am, that will be a very long time til then). Each piece of rolling stock is listed under its original owner (unless the original owner is unknown, then it's listed under the current owner). This list also includes streetcar and interurban companies (as those run on rails too!). As of right now, I am currently going state by state through the assorted museums within each state (with only Alabama, Alaska, Arizona and Arkansas completed). Once that is done, I'll run back through with tourist roads and displays in parks (and anything else I may have missed). Currently, the site isn't viewable to the public (this will happen once I get a few more states added). However, here's a taster of what I have so far.

Wow. You will be putting in a bunch of work! It does sound very interesting to me. A good way to find answers, all in one place. I hope this turns out well for you!

Looking forward to your creation, hopefully while I'm still alive. Though you might not be finished before your own retirement. ;)

Thanks Gents. I also forgot to mention that each entry also has a link to a photo (if I could find one).

Hi all! For those of you who are interested, I have made the site viewable to all! However, I have only added five states so far (that's all from nearly two months work). There is still plenty more that is going to be added, but let me know of what you think so far.

Long road ahead. This will eat up plenty of spare time!

I wish you luck, Will. There is a lot of stuff out there. I have a lot on my plate right now but may be able to help you later.

Thanks! If you are able to, I'm sure I'll find something that you can help out with.

Update: 10 states have been added, currently working on Georgia.

Alright, so I've decided to embark on another, new adventure. Still going to keep the RPI going and keep with updating and maintaining that (after three years, it's come quite a long way). But, with a growing interest in the railways of the UK, I've decided to start another similar site, but for the UK railways. Very preliminary at this moment, but stayed tuned...
