In light of the unbelievably long history of the "What's on your workbench" thread, I think we need a new contest: In the year 2007, who comes up with the most useful, unique or otherwise awe inspiring in the Z community. Could be the a new scratch built team, like the Steam community on Z Scale Central or maybe someone who has the guts to make a U.S. 4-6-6-2 or such, target signals, #8 or #10 turnouts (don't forget the Wyes). I mean something that everyone pretty much stands up and says that's it. Should be a sellable item (kit or RTR) but if it is just that kind of item that everyone can pretty much agree is so unique that we can salute them for their efforts. For me, some one that can kit an awesome U.S. 4-6-6-2 so we have a LONG steam loco, target signals (once you figure out the surface mount LEDS, wiring and core lighting, you can photo etch the variety of targets and supporting structures), #8 and #10 turnouts in mass (like I know Peter Wright could do). Things like drop-in decoders are not what I am talking about here. Floor us kinda stuff is what I am talking about. Talking about smooth side passenger cars gets my attention but I don't see them but when I do and them and they spank Marklin's detail, well, that's just great but it's commercial. I'm more favorable to solo work. You have 9 months to make me smile.
Spanking Boy...if these smooth side aren't going to get you excited...then maybe I should shelve the Passenger Cars and work on a series of 40 Box Cars ? I mean I'm working on them right now, by myself, all by myself, no one holding my hand, no one feeding me cups of coffe...just me and my CAD...If I can "Spank" Marklin then I oughta get more than an ATTABOY ) Kidding of course...I want the passenger cars...it's all about me...there I said it.. Really...good idea, but is it something that gets produced, or something we make for ourselves? Cheers Joe MTL

Well Joe, if it really turns out to be Z's best offer of the year, I guess we, the Z community, could certainly make you feel above everyone else. I'll even drive up there to bring you your coffee. Now if Marklin shocks us with a Big Boy, you could end up on the loosing end but I'm really trying to give all of our start ups a real boost here. Tim's really coming on strong, Chris has some nice looking targets, Peter Wright's talking #6 and 8's with the US tie spacing, etc. And we're on the edge of reality with Rapid Prototyping. Soon they'll render well enough for Z.
