Just today, Amtrak has released photographs of their new passenger equipment. They look pretty interesting to me. Take note of the paint scheme (it should seem familiar) http://blog.amtrak.com/2013/10/coming-soon-new-long-distance-cars/
Most of these will be on the east coast on trains that run into New York. We may see some baggage cars out west but not likely.
The Trains News Wire indicated the first cars would start testing next month, and be put in service next July. The total order should be completed by the end of 2015. News Wire had a picture of the new diner's interior, kind of spiffy actually, though nothing elegant like the 20th Century's diner...waaaw.:crying:
Video on the new cars: And here's an explanation of the Ph III scheme from Amtrak's official Facebook page: With the launch of our new single-level long distance equipment – the “Viewliner II”, we are also launching Amtrak America, a brand that will encompass all that is great about our ong-haul trains, including those with sleeper class service. Our route brands will continue, and this brand will make the conversation and overall service offerings clear to our customers and stakeholders. Amtrak America will utilize our Phase Three striping on the single-level long distance cars as a tribute to our heritage. The first cars released from production will also carry our heritage logo in honor of our past. Our current logo will return on the standard production cars.
Nice video. Interesting that they used the view liner platform for these cars. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk - now Free
