I made this water tank a few years ago, but today in the noontime sun, I decided to take a better picture of it to share: It was built following scaled down NP 48,000 gallon water tank plans: The center part was a room insulated with sawdust between the walls, with an oil heater inside, that was to keep the water from freezing. I just used a toothpick for the finial on top, as they were out of stock when i built it, but the spout was available as a Micron Art part under the Walthers catalog. I keep meaning to build a few more of these water tanks, but have too many other fun projects to do first!
Totally awesome! I remember seeing this tank in a thread about water tanks. You are right, the sunlight gives it all the justice it truely deserves!! John
Robert, The sunlight definately brings the scene to life. The water tower has always looked great, but this is incredible. Dan S.
robert, that is a great tank and great photo. and what did you use on your passenger car roofs? is that grimy black? the color and texture look so right. thanks for showing it to us. dave f.
The passenger car roofs are actually not even repainted, just used a stiff brush to apply Bragdon's Soot weathering powder, then Ash. I did not even need to use a finish coat, as the Bragdon's killed the shine and fine scratched it's way into the Marklin paint.
