Man, you guys out in the desert have it good with all that sunshine. Here in Oregon we got gloom. The gloom lifted between Eugene and Portland today, as 3985 thundered north. I didn't realize how much traffic is on the UP here, with Amtrak thrown in. 3985 still maintained a good schedule. I couldn't figure out why I couldn't catch her between my first contact at Junction City, and Albany. When I finally did catch her again at Salem, I found out why. He's the reason. Anyone recognize this guy?
Doyal told me he would be taken off, cant believe hes cheating on his "Other" wife. We might be bringin out our steamer to greet the 3985. It all depends on what Sarge and Mack have to say.
BTW, the guy on his knees with the fancy engineer cap, signing autographs, is none other than "Warm water Wheelihan." Good to see this crew back together again.
Well, as most know, we didnt pull our old girl out, but I went over to see the UP Representitive, and shee looks good. Dirty, but good. The guard said no when I asked to get closer, then I told him who I was with. Another Perk of working with the Daylight. My dad has a $16,000 Brass guage one model of 3985, and with the weathering, it looks identicle. And yes, it really was $16,000.
Finally got my film back. Here's the 3985 rolling through Junction City, OR. No matter how long before the train arrives that I set up, I always get the daisy pickers. This may be the only action shot I ever got of 3985. Bad luck story. OK, I put this up as a teaser. Who of you out there are going to chase/photograph the 3985 when she is Eastbound in the Columbia Gorge starting Thursday the 22nd.????
Daisy picker? More like a nose picker cause it's disgusting and wrong!! Look at it this way, atleast with the hippie and the old car in the picture, it looks like the pic was taken a long time ago. Can ya' Photo-Shop him outa' there or atleast put in somethin' else?
3985 is back home, after its long road trip. I caught it west of Cheyenne at Wycon, waiting for the auto rack train ahead of it to clear (which was waiting for two westbound freights to leave town). It was around 7:20 PM, so no pics, I'm afraid. However, the 6936 was out being serviced- both of its prime movers sounded good. Also, the steam shops switcher (the last SW10 on the roster) was moving E-units and cars around in prep. for the arrival of 3985 and train. Not sure where the 6936 is headed, if indeed it's going anywhere. Perhaps the fellas with the Sherman Hill Model RR Club (Some of which chased 3985 from Rawlins east), can fill us in.
I have no idea about the Centennial, but I chased her from Rock River EB to Cheyenne. Only a few pics, light was not optimal at most locations. I think the best photo of the chase was at an S-curve west of Buford, and east of Sherman (summit). The last light of the day showered the train with a yellow glow, and I even got the rods down.
