Wow. Nice! I don't recall ever seeing such a prototype, so there must not have been a lot of these? Probably the only model anyone has ever built?
Very well done! The level of detail is great. No wonder - it's so small that if you blink when it goes by in a train, you miss it!
Thank you Box cab. I've never seen one either, though there's one 60 miles from me in Waycross GA at a GATX repair facility being used as a sign. Mike, many thanks to you. It's tiny that's for sure! Regards, Bobby
What era is the prototype from? The roller bearing trucks show that it can't be that old, but the tank design appears to be similar to the old 8000 gallon ones.
Below is an image of a bromine car I googled it is a close match to Bobby's work of art. https://www.google.com/url?sa=i&rct=j&q=&esrc=s&source=images&cd=&cad=rja&uact=8&ved=0ahUKEwii6NTv18HNAhVG34MKHZxyDsoQjRwIBw&url=http://www.rrpicturearchives.net/showPicture.aspx?id=815502&psig=AFQjCNHmPqGUhe-ADHmswIfclyzQPJbTcg&ust=1466892858209033 Every time I look a Bobby's Tank cars I wanna take a hammer to mine. I was amazed at how many placards and decals were on this thing. My version is too long, too big around, now I really wanna take a hammer to it.
Guys, sorry for my Very late reply. The car was built in 1965 as half of a two car order. Yes it does look like a narrow gauge car. Some of these small cars came with friction bearing trucks, but were changed to roller bearing. Thanks for posting the photos Tom.
Only two cars built? That sure explains why I'd never had a chance to see a prototype unit in action.
That was this order. There were several built for different company's. Even the sizes were different. I found a green one on Fallen Flags. I wish I could think of the reporting marks for a company that has several sizes of the small cars. The photos are on RR pictures. Regards, Bobby
http://www.rrpicturearchives.net/rsList.aspx?id=GLKX&cid=12 found it. Two are smaller than mine! Regards, Bobby
