Anyone going to the 2007 Narrow Gauge Convention in Portland, ME, 29Aug - 01Sep? I have some pictures to post regarding the upcoming event. Most narrow gauge items are scratchbuilt, so there is usually excellent modeling there.
I can see that the wild enthusiasm for the NMRA Narrow Gauge Convention is presently somewhat subdued. Here is a slight preview. Here is a picture of the water tank Al Boos is going to build in his clinic at the convention. He brought it to the SAMRA meeting the other night and I took a picture. Looks good, etc. Typical Al Boos work. Here is the innovative thing about this...he doesn't use a ruler to measure anything. My take is: That is impossible. Nevertheless, he described how he did it and it is true. He doesn't use a scale at all and cuts things to be approximate. He also uses geometry to size the other parts. It is all very clever. It should be a great clinic. Here is the picture: Note: This picture is distorted by the wide angle lens. The tank portion is smaller at the top than the bottom, i.e., truncated.
I would dearly love to be in Portland. What an experience that would be! I love those little steamers. Have never seen one up close. But, our finances will keep it to a dream. Boxcab E50
