Just got my DRG TM last week and ran it with the SP TM I got from the first batch (on DC). The earlier version runs about 10% faster than the new one. Both units essentially out of box (only a few minutes run time). As it stands, I cannot MU these two units together as they fight with each other. [IMG]

    Has anybody else experienced this??

Also, the new body is superb! No super size rivets, no AC unit on DRG unit, other minor detail differences. Will the re-released SP units be this good?

The 1st run has the old "fast motor" - subsequent runs (any since the GP38 came out) have the "slow" motor.

You are thinking Atlas not IMRC.

    Doug:

I would suspect a bit of a bind in the second unit since to my knowledge there has been no design changes in the drive. Of course the first unit could be unduly loose.

    Possible,
since IM uses the same factory as Atlas for mechanisims...

This was reported by both Atlas and IM, IIRC.

I am almost certain the 1st release used a mechanism with the new "slow" motors too.

Could be a break-in issue. Some units seem to smooth-out and even slow down some as they break-in.

However, on a day-to-day basis after a full break-in, many units will start out slow when they're cold and speed up as they warm up (I routinely need to keep turning the power down as trains continue to run faster and faster as the session progresses).

So, make sure units you are trying to MU have been warmed up equally or they can fight each other.

Maybe all of the oil found inside the box of the SP unit is a clue! The super-lubed SP would bind much less (but spray oil all over).

The point about break-in is well taken, as both units were cold and had only a few minutes time on them. If I can keep tha cat from knocking the darn things over, I might get them both broken in!

Dumb ol' me, the only Diesel I've ever known to be called a "TM" was the Fairbanks-Morse TrainMaster, perhaps thats why N&W thought an Atlas model was being referred to.

Wasn't 'til the third post that I figured the subject was Tunnel Motors. [IMG]

    LOL,

Yes, TM means to me Train Master. Sorry about that . . .

That one got me as well. In the rail world where I live (which is on one of SP's oldest branch lines) "TM" stands for Trainmaster. ;)
