What is it about track like this that is SO 'attracktive' ? I just mentioned liking 'down in the dirt track' as my favorite, in a post yesterday. I mean it's all fab but there's somethin' bout this, huh?
Back in the day Commerce, TEXAS was a junction of the Cotton Belt and the Texas Midland. The Texas Midland sold out to the T&NO (SP) in about 1926. The photo faces Northwest along the alignment of Cotton Belt's old "S" Branch to Sherman, TEXAS. That line was abandoned on September 26, 1953. Service to Sherman on Espee trackage rights started on September 28, 1953. The line curving in front of the depot is the Cotton Belt secondary main to Dallas and Fort Worth. The old Texas Midland/T&NO used trackage rights over this line from Greenville to Commerce. The Texas Midland/T&NO had a line extending from Commerce to Paris, TEXAS until it was washed out in 1971. That line used to run in back of the pictured depot.
