Quote "Nice shot!!! Was the power of that train worth showing? " A really single-minded tank car fan might answer: "Power? What power? I just shoot CARS!"
Manned helpers, or DPU's? Either way, a 30-year old 'Deuce is a refreshing sight to see... The head end power sure was a mixed bag!
Thank you for the compliment The rear-end power are DPU units. Manned units are usually found as helpers thru Cajon Pass area [ March 29, 2006, 10:13 PM: Message edited by: Harold R. (aka SD75MAC) ]

Sulphuric Acid tank car. SLMX was the reporting marks for Sugar Land Manufacturing Company. The site was demolished in 1924 so this would have had to be taken before then.
Some tanks from the Houston Railroad Museum. City Services 2198. Helium car made up of a bundle of high pressure tanks. MHAX 1237.
I have been seeing a bunch of unit tank car trains lately where I had not seen any in years. Today I caught one full of old ATSF and BN tank cars. What would they be carrying? The only thing I came up with was ethanol. Because of the federally mandated summer requirements for the gasoline markets in large cities like Houston, a lot of it is needed to blend into the local gasoline supply right before delivery. They can not ship it by pipeline because it picks up impurities like water too easily.
What looks to be a narrow-gauge tank car on a standard-gauge flat. Shot at the UP (ex-SP) yard, Eugene, OR
