So this one is Amazon instead of ebay so I guess it just gets honorary mention for humor? https://www.amazon.com/Kato-USA-Mod...srs=8118163011&ie=UTF8&qid=1527007361&sr=8-14
How fascinating is their shipping schedule? It is two and three weeks out- with expedited shipping! Wow.
I had to look up Parallel Import Goods as mentioned in the Amazon posting. We know these as "grey market goods" not authorized for sale in the U.S.. Funny how Amazon instead allows the common term to be cloaked in nomenclature that sounds innocent. Usually grey market stuff is cheaper, as there is usually no warranty, no manufacturer support and a potentially checkered history. This Seller has got it all backwards.
Amazon trains are surprisingly sketchy, especially KATO. Amazon tries to hide it, but they work a lot like eBay with third party sellers on their site. Their prices can be all over the place, and shipping is not always from an Amazon warehouse. I saw a news article the other day where a third party seller charged a $7,000 shipping fee to a lady who ordered paper towel rolls.
https://www.ebay.com/itm/N-Scale-St...565016?hash=item3d66139758:g:XF8AAOSwCXJbBKBf Not only doesn't this look "New", it doesn't matche between the loco and tender and does not even seem like any of it originally came in that box.
Wasn't that from the time when it looked like SF and UP were going to merge (but the merger eventually fell through)?
Didn't even catch that 2-8-8-3 the first pass. Must be that new 3rd rail N scale that no one is talking about.
What I find humourous about FeePay is that some nice stuff goes up there at a decent price and no one bids. Someone will put up some junk, come just short of outright stating that it is JUNQUE and it gets bid up over its price when it was new.
To be honest, when I get down to it, I don't mind eBay. It is good for finding older items when you can't get to the train shows, but the shipping is what gets me. I use ebay mostly for smaller things like car kits and unique products. I don't buy much just because shipping is often the same price as the item. I might as well wait for a train show or something to show up at the club instead of doubling my price.
https://www.ebay.com/itm/N-Scale-St...565016?hash=item3d66139758:g:XF8AAOSwCXJbBKBf I guess that seller must read TB, because he changed the tender to match the loco. However, I think neither matches the box. The box is for a pretty nice "Heritage" version by Life Like, but the model looks like a much less desirable version by Rowa/Rivarossi/Concor. (Note firebox and handrail details and compare to Spookshow photos.) Maybe the seller can read this and go find the right box?
Not to mention, that the rear set of drivers on both front and rear mechanisms are on notch out of quarter, and the rod pins missing, makes it quite clear that it ain't new. Does look rather Rivarossi, doesn't it? But does appear to have a MT coupler on the back end. So all in all, we are probably lucky it isn't being sold as "genuine Micro Trains collectible" at a price of $500. On the other hand, shipping is quite reasonable.
Yes, they did. Wish someone would come out with an SD 26. Incidentally the 2-8-8-2 is an extremely bad puller. However, if memory serves me correctly they did use these to get trans over Raton Pass. Uhh...err...not the model but the 1:1 foot scale. I'd of priced it at around $75.00 on "Best Offer," asking $100.00 up front. It would make for a great shelf queen sitting in a round house.
Didn't Atlas produce an SD26? That's what the box says in that ebay listing with the old F unit in it. Or am I missing something. I am pre-coffee this morning. But I am about to rectify that situation.
Atlas put out the SD 24, not the SD 26. However, there was someone that took the SD 24 and transformed it into an SD 26. If Atlas had put out a SD 26 I would have grabbed a few of them up. The SD 24/s are poor runners and pullers...way to lite. No tractive effort to speak of. I would get about 30 hours out of them before they ended up on my work bench for a tune-up.
