Having finished my RI GP35, I am wondering if anyone makes an Nn3 diesel kit to fit the chassis? I really love the smallness of the Z stuff and I thought I might give Nn3 a try so I can, obviously, use the MT track and turnouts that I have. Don't worry; I'm not gonna give up on Z. I'm just trying to figure out which one I like more!
I have been monitoring the Nn3 list but have not heard of any locos for the GP35 yet. I would expect to see a new Narrow Gauge shay by now, but nobody has reworked the Shay kit that fir the MTL F7 yet.
hi guys, i started on the shay kit to redo it with an MTL chassis. cutting away that soft metal all but ruined the chassis. i could do better, i think, rebuilding the chassis from scratch and then using the boiler/cab/etc. i put it on the back burner in favor of Rio Grande repaints and projects. but i still have the parts. a shay over the GP-35 chassis would be SO much quieter, better, sweeter, ... i to am surprized that no one else has done it yet. those Nn3 forumites are pretty aggressive about adapting new products. interesting. dave f.
As Robert said, there has been talk of adapting the Shay kit for the GP35 chassis. Check out Garth Hamilton's website at www.Nn3.ca . I think Garth used the AZL F59PHI for some projects as well. Randy
