I would guess that it was an "estimate" based on sales by Marklin and MTL. Just by the fact that MT and Marklin still make the stuff leads to a number well over 2-4,000. I personally know 5 or 6 Z scalers that don't even have internet access, and if it weren't for the internet, I would have never found Z-Track or this group. I would guess that we only know of 20-25% of the Z scale population. Just the most active ones. I would guess that's about the same for any scale. You only "see" the ones that are actively involved in groups or shows, the rest just sort of blend into the general public. Dan S.
Jim, Good choice on the RS2, it was the one I voted for . While I'd love to see prototype trucks on this unit, I can fully understand if it comes w/EMD's. As long as the price is relatively comparable to MTL's and AZL's injection offerings (around $200-250 powered), I'd certainly opt for a couple. The road I'd be using them for used an RS1 and a pair of RS3's, but in Z a 2's close enough to a 3 Looking forward to seeing progress on this. Maybe do the RS11 next Regards, Dan MacKellar
Poll results for Engine Shell The results of the Engine Shell poll, which may be viewed by all at Trainboard, are; 1. ALCO RS II 16 votes 48.48% 2. BLW "SHARKNOSE" 4 votes 12.12% 3. EMD GP30 9 votes 27.27% 4. GE U-18 4 votes 12.12% We will build a minimum of 25 units of the RS-2 as soon as possible, that's the number the 16 voters said they would purchase - no commitment is expected, just us anticipating purchases. We'll announce the price at the end of next week. We will also initiate a special order RPM service for engine shells and rail cars. We will arrive at a fair service price depending on volume, and level of difficulty. We can make 1 unit (expensive) or 100 units (not expensive). Some of the projects we have discussed in the past with modelers who are interested in this type of limited edition service include; Pennsy Bay/Side window Caboose 3-Dome Texaco Tank Car MOW trains Heavyweight Crane with service car Heavyweight Passenger cars (RPO, Bag, Diner, Coach, Pullman Sleeper and Observation). We are presently discussing the casting of nickel silver metal frames and wheels for heavyweight trucks. We don't know if this service will be viable, but will announce it shortly with a standard pricing formula so that you can know in advance what the magnitude of your special order price will be. Thanks for your continuing support of Z scale. Jim Shiff
i don't know if i specified a number, but i would like 2 or 3 pf the RS-2s. dave f. p.s. a wide vision caboose should be on your "to do" list. so many roads had them!
