I'm giving the wood chip gondola an attempt. I'm using a Deluxe Innovations N scale version as a template. I built a Excel sheet to convert mm caliper measurements from N scale to real world. Then the sheet converts that to a likely real world imperial measurement. Then that gets converted back to Z scale in mm. Then that gets converted to the nearest 0.2 mm in X and Y and the nearest 0.06 mm in the Z axis to control how it will actually get sliced in the slicer. But I am designing it with a 0.2 mm nozzle (0.22 mm line width) and a layer height of 0.06 mm. in mind, with a minimum of 0.44 mm. So a 0.4 mm nozzle with a 0.12 mm layer height could be used. Proof of concept print went well. I still need to work on the undercarriage. It prints from top to bottom, upside-down.
Resin printing for a little over a year now, generally, I find tilting a geometric model (that is, one with geometric shapes) 45 degrees minimizes the needed supports as the model presents fewer "new" edges and surfaces as layers are added. I've actually printed signs with just one support, on the bottom-most corner of the tilted sign. Experimenting with walls right now, actually trying them edge-on the build plate standing straight up, with the thought that the swelling at the bottom can either be sanded or hid with scenery. Still, tilting them 45 degrees on a corner will work fine, up to a certain size. Then, you need to consider warping of the upper reaches as being pulled along by the rest of the model will induce twisting.
Morning! I have a couple of those new designs I promised I'd made. I have a 50' flatcar added to the line, along with two types of bulkhead flatcar ends. Both of these are up at Cults 3D and my Gumroad store. Only the flatcar is up at Thangs, as they don't allow designs to sell for under $3. I plan to run the cars I've made in my next video. I don't have any Z scale designs planned right now. If I do I'll let everyone know. Have a good weekend!
I have one more structure design that I've made available on Cults 3D and Thangs. It's a small house like one I made earlier, but with the door on the long side. I hope you like it. I don't have any ideas I'm hungry to make in Z right now. I do have a couple designs I'd like to try in N scale. If I do come up with anything new I'll let you know. Thanks!
I did come up with one idea while rewatching a video about someone's Texas Special consist in N scale. As the sleepers the Frisco and Katy had were 14-4 cars, and I'd already designed a smooth-side 14-4, I decided to make a fluted 14-4 sleeper. It's now up at Cults 3D and Thangs. I have one more design I'm going to try, then I don't know what I'll do next. All the same, thanks again for your support!
As you may have seen elsewhere here, I've been making some N scale buildings. I thought I'd start the new year by taking some of what I'd done there and work on Z scale structures. I've been creating some new designs and reworking a couple older ones. First up are two new designs, 20x30 business buildings. They're up at Cults 3D. I'll have more to share later this week.
Here's another of the new designs, a 20 by 20 farmhouse. It's now up at Cults 3D. I also reworked the small depot and the first single-story house design. Taking out the door and window sills made my prints come out better. I'm hoping to print another reworked design this weekend, along with something in a different scale.
Just an update on a couple old designs today. I tinkered with the cottage design and the two tiny gas station buildings. The last two I may not have put up at Cults before now. They're available there as of today. My painting was a bit rough on one of the buildings, so I'm showing the other one here. I'm hoping to print and paint a simple two-story shop this coming weekend. After that I'm not sure what to do. I'd like to do more of those shops. I'd like to try more, but I don't have a large printer. I'd also like to know people will want a design, and it might be nice if I had a place for it on a layout or display. If you have any thoughts let me know. Thanks and have a good day!
