Here are some pics that I took of a N coupler and a Z coupler in a MTL T&P caboose red WITH a buzzsaw...
My what big couplers you have...:tb-shocked:

What a difference! Is it a drop in or are modifications necessary?

turn it upside down, wash and don't have sweaty hands-fingers as this will show as a shiny spot in picture or if light hits it just right on layout, just my advice...
Turn upside down CAREFULLY don't break all the caboose details these things are more fragile than I thought...
unscrew the coupler screw and put the screw into the Z 905, don't use the Z screw, well I guess one could, but I didn't since the hole had the original screw in it...
unscrew put screw in the Z and rescrew into the old hole.
If you are body mounting a car, might want to check that the wheels swivel, like through a switch and not cause the car to tip over due to the radius restriction and that the Z coupler hole and body mount hole (if present) line up, I found this the hard way....... the coupler will set very crooked.

Good to see someone else finding how much Z scale couplers improve the looks of their rollingstock. Sometimes you need to use a filler piece to get the coupler a bit lower, or lower the car body, but it looks like the caboose body already sits a bit lower.

I use MT Z scale #905 couplers all the time on my rolling stock and loco's.

Yes, what a difference it makes!
All my locomotives and caboosies have them. I have too many cars to convert over thou.
    905's = :thumbs_up::thumbs_up:

Question, will it couple to cars that still have the N Scale couplers?

Yes, the MT 905 Z - Scale coupler will mate with the MT N - Scale couplers.

I have a few EV cabs with the snap in, I wonder if they would work with that. I have used 905s on Atlas corn syrup and Athearn ethanol cars. They look great and at the rear of the train have caused no problems.

Me too, but every now and then I do a batch, gives me something to do on a rainy day. I just wish MTL would expand the line beyond the 905, eg, a Z version of the 1015, instead of marketing them as 'Z' they could call them 'scale size N couplers'.
I've run long consists of mixed N and Z couplers on the club's Ntrak layout with no problems, my Athearn coalporters all have body mounted 905's. If all your couplers are at the correct height and centered and your track is good there's no worries, but those things improve operation and should be done whatever couplers you're using.

Yes, that is something that is badly needed. A 1015 box with a scale sized coupler would be really nice!

Being marketed as N size couplers would be nice!
I might try to put them on a tank car or something!!!
I wish I had a never ending supply of them!
