Looked at one of the websites I purchase from and found the following:

We have received the new Rivarossi prices and we're updating the site now; in some cases the increases are quite drastic! We're sorry, but there's not much to be done...the pricing decisions are made by Walthers, the new importer. On the other hand Walthers can be counted on to back the product fully... Regular Hudsons, old price $118, new price $159; Streamlined Hudsons, old $162, new $183; Challengers, old $186, new $229; Big Boys, Cab Forwards & Mallets, old $186, new $254 (!); Passenger Car Sets, old $66, new $72

I wish I had purchased more when ME was doing their closeout sale. I got my Challenger for $129, a full $100 off the new price!!!!

Walthers is known for the over price and alot more WHY I will never know... I bet this is my last days on buying Rivarossi being the prices are that high!!! I'll stick to buying used ones and build 'em to run and last without the high price.......

    Come on guys,

Let's not let Walthers rule this hobby like they are trying to do. Or should I say ruin !!!!

Do not buy from them. I know it might hurt for awhile to have to wait for that special piece
but this is the only way we can fight back --
    -- with our wallets.

They buy up all the stock and raise the prices. Who do they think they are fooling. You can't tell me that the Rivarossi prices increased like that.
Shipping cost -- come on !

    O.K I'm through,

    Thanks for listening,

    Scott

I said it before & I'll say it again: "Look elsewhere, there's bound to be a price for Rivarossi's that's lower than Walter's." Look into your local hobby shop, look for sellers' who are planning on a clearance at malls, clubs or meetings. Heck if there's a Tackle place that sells everything for fishing but they list themselves as "Tire Hill Sporting and Train Shop" (the sporting and train shop does exist here in Johnstown, PA under that name) But they only sell Lionel and MTH trains, but good scenery for all scales. All I can say really is to look  !
    Good luck & happy hunting!

Oh yeah, plenty of places cheaper than Walthers. The guy I ordered my new Riv. Allegheney (at $315 by the way including shipping and insurance.) is also selling Riv. passenger car sets at $65. Pretty darn good if you ask me. He needed to sell 12 Alleghenys, 13 people ordered, one person ordered two. He also said he can get more of 'em. Hey, $315 with shipping and Ins. Not bad either.
