For those of us that have a steam locomotive roster, most have a favorite locomotive. Let's see a photo of yours. Here's mine. This ll'l rascal is unusual in that it's the second one I purchased. I bought it from Jim Kelly's daughter on eBay. When I received it, the box had no model number on the end and it was missing an air pump. The one that appeared in Model Railroader's review was also missing the air pump. So, I'm pretty sure this was that engine.
Well, darn it all! I don't have a steam engine on my roster. But the logging mallet John Moore shared with us a few weeks back, was a favorite of mine in real life. Such as Rayonier owned. I may need to break down, and somehow find a way to own an Atlas Shay.... Boxcab E50
Well in real life it was an NP Northern Class A-3 or A-4 laid out at about 80 crossing Eastern Montana. Then there was the sight of a big GN R-1 or R-2 about 60 miles further north rolling off the miles at track speed with a mile of freight behind. And then there is this big gal. http://www.railimages.com/gallery/GN-SP-S-and-NP-Steam/aaw
Guys, both of these photos could easily apprear in one of the magazines, I think this thread is going to rival some of the others currently doing the rounds lol. More Steam please.
http://www.csse.monash.edu.au/~ajh/trains/nsw/38class/3801.html This is the real thing, but have only seen 2 in N scale, both on Ebay, both went for over $500us... both way too rich for me
Of course, this design is a big favorite of mine. Red/White/Blue, Red/Orange/Black.....it's beautiful either way.
It's got to be the Rowa 2-8-8-2 Y6b I bought in 1972. I'm working on salvaging it now, repairing 32 years worth of abuse. It's missing a few siderods and crankpins, but I'm determined to fix it up. Then I'll photograph it.
