Welcome aboard! SD9's had different rear light configurations. Some had just a headlight. Others the full package. Some without the UDE light, and others had the barrel light, and a headlight. Blank out plates and UDE light mounts showed where the lights ounce were. Thom

I must admit I like Cadillac also, however the one that moved me the most was the U50. Awesome looking Locomotive even though not quite as good a runner as many of the other great Southern Pacific Locomotives:tb-cool:
Cab forwards (AC-4 - AC-6) with the flat fronts, GS-4's, MT's and the P-10. I love the look of the semi-streamlined steamers. Pretty much all of SP's mainline steam.
By the end of the 60's, most (those equipped) had lost the rear mars and UDE lights. Espee started taking them off in the mid-60's. Also happened to the SD7, GP9,20,30. The GRIP program put the rear lights back on. I model '67, so I will have a good mix of light combos... edit: Same occurred to ALCO RS/RSD units equipped with rear oscillating lights.

Last I saw her she was at Brooklyn Roundhouse in Portland Oregon. Work was in progress. Something to do with the wheels or axles or such. Course this was two years ago now.

SP 4449 SP 4449 has been out a couple of times in the past year. A year ago saw the SP 4449 & UP 844 doubleheaded out of Portland. December 2K+7 the SP&S 700 joined SP 4449 on a Christmas train in Portland.
SD45X Boy, my favorite SP locomotive. That's like asking my favorite Victoria's Secret model. As far as operating goes, it would be any of the SD40-T2. They rode well and were just all around nice inside and out. Looks and modeling would be the SD45X or SD39. John Proffitt, one of the top USA SP modelers always, as I, loved to model the SD39's. I think Santa Fe and IC had a few of them. The SD45X's that were left in demo blue and white, had SP on the nose and SP numbers. 9505,9503 and one other. They were nice looking and hard to find photos of; other than front coupled, yuck. My favorite locomotivesare the Fairbanks Morse H24-66 Train Masters working commutes out of the Bay area. They didn't hang around long in freight service but neverthless, they got my vote.
After California, they were in Houston as heavy yard switchers and worked in three unit lashups. It would have been great to see those!

I'm pretty sure that is correct, Larry. Houston is where they made the big Alco slugs to help in the yard. Even San Antonio had a few. They all left the roster around 1980? 1983? Here is a photo of them working in the Englewood Yard, Houston, Texas.
Well. At this point I am going to have to confess that I have confused the Trainmaster and the Alco C628/C630. Long day, I guess. Here is some good information on the H12-44 that confirms what Larry said.
Hey Flash, that's okay... Both were C-C hoods. Most people seem to like EMD's the best. Hard to deal with an F Black Widow paint scheme which, in my opinion, was SP's best paint livery. I guess I've seen so many EMD's in life (haven't we all?) that it's kind of easy to see how they'd get picked. But give me FM's and ALCO's anytime.
