I do a lot of browsing through railImages for ideas and inspiration... lots of awesome stuff. So what's your favorite photo (not of your own)?
I don't remember who took it, but I know it is a frequent flyer here at Trainboard. It is the low shot looking up at the trestle that appears to be about 1000 feet up. The other one I really like is the one that Nolan took and had as his feature picture for his album.
Mark, that sounds like one Pete Nolan posted a little while back. Aside from being a master modeler, Pete is also a professional photographer which I think is a bit "cheatsie" for those of us who are complete Dorks!
I had two favorites, one was the one by John W of the bridge over the canyon already shown above for its incredibly realistic looking perspective. My other is this one by Jon G for the most realistic looking winter scene:
I don't really have a favorite. I will say that I thoroughly enjoy looking at RailImages. It really gives me an opportunity to see what other modelers are doing and get ideas. From the many that I have looked at, I think it is remarkable how many truly excellent modelers there are out there.
Hey, When I 1st saw this topic,I thought of John W's bridges. But then you start to really think. There have been so many fantastic photos, from so many fantastic modellers (yes Flash, even you ) it's just to hard pick one. It's like trying to eat only one Mozz ball.It just doesn't happen.
Oh, you mean model photo. Here I went and choose a prototype photo. Naughty me. I always like the photos Tom McIntyre shoots on his water tower diorama. Here is my favorite.
Keep the compliments coming... And if you haven't browsed through RailImages, this is a good reason to Lots of good stuff there!
Russ, Doesn't matter what type of photo... just one that's in somebody else's RailImages album that you thought was nice.
Man, that's a tough question. For me I have to go back to my favorite topic of 2005 which was called A new Roundhouse for Pueblo Started by J WIDMAR on February 3, 2005.
I have two modellers who produce amazing shots in my book. Russel straw and Flash blackman. this one just works for me based on how much track that train has to cross. http://www.railimages.com/gallery/robertblackman/aqn?full=1 russ's sugar building is always a nice backdrop: http://www.railimages.com/gallery/russellstraw/aoy?full=1
Hey, I don't know or understand how Flash's layout hasn't been featured in NSR. From what I've seen,it's beautiful.
My favorites are Jon Grant and Sweethome Chicago. This album is just great modeling with super photos. Also Wolfgang Dudler's trestles and water. BTW, Wolfgang has some great how-to information on his website. Here is a manual turnout I want to build for my layout.
