So what kinda photography equipment do yall have? I have a Nikon D40 18-55mm & 55-200mm Lens GFM-MK1 Tripod. Thats about it for me!
I have a Canon Powershot S2 IS. Cost me probably $300,but I like it. Might upgrade sometime in the future. Serves me pretty well, whether I'm photographing a freight train at 30 mph+ http://img88.imageshack.us/img88/2795/121907004lx8.jpg or an ARCA stock car at 130+ mph http://img72.imageshack.us/img72/189/2007egfs200billyleslie1bi7.jpg
My first digital camera that I still use from time to time is a Minolta Dimage 4.0 MP. I just purchased back in late November Nikon D40X 18-55MM AF-S Lens 55-200MM AF-S VR Lens HP D7460 Photosmart printer I must admit. I have played around w/ the NIKON and the lenses on my layout. The pictures I have taken SUPER MAGNIFY all the little flaws and goofs up I have on details. Amazing. I am beginning to think I won't do jack as a photographer, but the camera MAY just make me a better modeler. ( I hope )
Photo Equipment A pair of trusty Pentax K-1000's here one with a 75-225 Macro/Zoom and the other with a 28mm wide angle. I'm using Filmworks film ASA 200 in the summer and ASA 400 in the winter. There is also a 80-200 Zoom for the second camera too. The standare 50mm lenses haven't been used in years, Slides are all I take and I guess I'm a bit old fashioned still using film in the digital age.The two K-1000's are about 30 years old and still do a great job.
Nikon D50 Nikor 18mm-55mm Kit lens w/ UV and Polarizer Nikor 70mm-300mm Telephoto plastic version with UV and Polarizer Tameron 28mm-200mm Macro zoom Cheap Walmart Tripod. I seriously thought about the D40 last year when I got the 50, but I wanted the ability to use any Nikon compatible lens. That Tameron lens is considered one of the best 28mm-200mm available. I kept it from my old Film SLR. It's my default lens though ever since I got the polarizers, I've been using it less. Eventually I want to get a polarizer for it, but it's huge, so it's not a cheap endeavor. As for the tripod, I should get a nicer one I guess, but I almost never use it, so It's good enough.
Happy New Year from a Z Scaler. I've gone through three digital cameras since I entered model railroading. By far my favorite is my Canon A620. It is 7.2mp with a 4x optical zoom. Forget digital zooms. The best thing about this camera is the viewscreen on the back folds out and allows the photographer to virtually always 'seen the shot'. Check out my photos under 'socalz44'. Cheers, Jim CCRR

Canon Digi Rebel (D300) Canon S50 Canon T70 (blast from the past film cammie) old Fuji MX700 (my first 1.5MP digi) Assorted but relatively inexpensive lenses Assorted but relatively inexpensive tripods Couple of filters... yada yada
I'm a Canon man. I keep a SD1000 around a lot for quick shots, it's small and easy to carry. For more serious work I have a Digital Rebel (300D) which is getting long in the tooth; which I usually use with the 28-135 IS USM lens for train work. I also have the 18-55 kit lens which is used a lot indoors at model shows, and a 75-300 IS USM which is used rarely, but when I do use it man it comes in handy. I also have a 50mm prime for portrait work that pretty much never gets used for railfanning. I also have an Elan 7EN 35mm film body. It gets used less and less as time goes by. I'm looking to upgrade my body. I want a 5D, but it's due for replacement so I have to wait and see what's next. The new XSi really has me thinking though, that's a LOT of camera for the buck.
Nikon D70 and D100 Nikon 12-24, 24-85, 70-300 lenses Nikon SB-800 Speedlight; other slave flashes Good tripods, one heavy, one light 20+ gbytes of memory cards Will probably purchase a D200 or perhaps a D300 this summer, prior to vacation.
I'm new around here. Great place! I have all Canon gear. 5D+Grip 35/f2 50/f1.4 85/f1.8 100/f2.8macro 135/f2.8sf 17-40/f4L 24-70/f2.8L 100-400isL I'm thinking of getting a 1dMKIII... soon.. very soon.
Fuji Finepix S5500 4mp with 10x Optical zoom, plus a nice sturdy Manfrotto tripod... Definately wanna upgrade to a DSLR though.... new Nikon D200 looks nice.... I'll keep dreaming for now....
Started in digital about 6 years ago with various 3x mini zooms, graduated to Canon S2IS, then S3IS and then an S5IS, finally, frustrated by the limit on wide angle (36mm min) on these otherwise teriffic cameras (really GOOD image quality) I went to a Nikon 40x (should have gotten the 40, but thats a different discussion) and a Nikon 18-200 f3.5-5.6 VR lens (35 mm eq 27-300mm) also got a SB-400 flash and a sto-fen diffuser. Before digital I had a Nikon F100 and a variety of 2.8 lenses from 17-300 mm. Still learning the 40x, but am starting to get some good images when I take my time. The VR (vibration reduction) lenses are really effective for hand held shots and low light. Phil
