As I continue to explore the possibilities of S scale, I am wondering about decals. I have been looking for someone who does them for Milwaukee Road diesels in the simplified orange/black scheme of my era: Mid-late 1960's. I see that Enhorning has a decent selection for Milw freight and passenger cars. A couple of others do maybe a set or two for freight cars.

Anyone have some good leads for me?

    Hi Greg-

I've sent Des Plaines an e-mail and asked them about this. Will let you know what information they might offer.

    Thanks-

    Greg-

This evening I received a response from Des Plaines. They do have a set. (Milw-3) :D

I will need to look at it again. Just took a quick glance. What I saw appeared to have only one herald. :( Unless there is a second sheet, or more to view.

Anyhow, one more question may have been answered!

    BoxcabE50,

I think there are two sheets in that pack. Nice looking decals. What would you put them on? I can see a GP-9 running around with that paint scheme

    Hi Greg-

Received a second response today from Des Plaines. There are indeed two sheets in each. :D

Yes. I can envision these used on a GP9. Or perhaps a GP35. I need to look more closely and see what phase the AM GP35 is?

If you like, I can shoot a roof close up of AM's GP35 for you and e mail it to you.

I went to Portola today and had a closer look at the Milwaukee 5057. Would be kind of nice to have one of those, only in SP.

    Hi Greg-

I'm trying to remember the spotting features of a Milw GP35. Seems that there should be a "blower" hump (correct name?) behind the cab roof? And some difference in the side sills. (Straighter?) Between a phase 1 and phase 2? I believe the Milw were phase 2a? I'm not up on the trivia that goes with knowing these. Guess I'd flunk out as a train spotter! :(

I'd love to hear a Milw U boat again. There are two survivors that I know of: 5057 at Portola, and 5056 at Illinois RR Museum. Neither running. But both supposedly can be restored. They had a somewhat unique sound. This was due to the type of internal spark arrestor the Milw used.

    :D

I would have to see a picture of MILW's GP35's to answer you're question. I know WP's were like the AM version and even if they weren't, I'm not that big of a nit picker to worry about it. I found 9 out 10 people wouldn't know the difference and a good paint job is more important. It's too bad MILW units never made it to the WP.
