Hey all Lets see your grade crossing pics. My name sake locomotive crosses Ave C, with a westman. Lancaster CA. 8672 east crosses Ave E at Oban, just outside of Lancaster CA. SP west whistling board for Ave C crossing Thom
Wow, I don't have many of those. May have to scan some in if I can find them in my Box-o-slides. For now I have this from a town I lived in back in the 60's. These were Boston & Maine tracks back then.
I belive the CSX engines are at the grade crossing in this shot. This guy was moving at a good clip when I snapped this shot.
Russell Your shot of the Tropicana juice train could also go in the "unit train" thread. Paint them orange, put em behind SP power, and run em through Donner, and you would have the PFE unit trains of years ago. Nice shots you got there! Thom
10-14 Tropicana cars don't really qualify as a Unit Train when they are followed by 50-70 double-stacks. The cars in the photo probably came through Gulfport, MS yesterday. Anywhere from 2-14 Tropicana cars come through here every morning at the head end of a stack train between 7:30 and 8:00. The eastbound empty Tropicana cars must come through at night, because I rarely see them.
A Kansas City Southern unit leads a southbound coal train at Palmer Lake. Only wish I had video of this train. Locomotive had the best sounding horn I've heard in a LONG time!! And it ECHOED off the suurounding hills!!
Hytec Thanks for the info. From that shot, it looked like the Tropicana juice train, with all Tropicana reefers. Thom
You know, I could repost a lot of pictures from other topics. Instead, I'll only try to post ones I haven't used before or at least recently. Vancouver Wa. Approaching the crossing that gives access to the Ranch at Walong on the Tehachapi loop.
Approaching crossing. Just out of picture to the left. Working hard still! Assuming it's an Ex? MRL SD45? Was 3rd unit in consist. KCS SD40 bringing up the rear.
I generally do not shoot from grade crossings--that said, sometimes I get lazy and bag a crossing shot like so... Missoula-Laurel (ML) MRL manifest drifts downgrade on Mullan Pass at West Austin, at the lower of Austin's loops:
SP GP9E's at the Oak Creek road grade crossing, Mojave CA. I wish these two would have picked a better time of day (early morning) to show off. Shooting in Mojave's blinding sun makes for not so great shots. Thom
Here are some Xing shots that I have taken over the years. http://i51.photobucket.com/albums/f392/DanRaitz/Trains/BN_3040.jpg http://i51.photobucket.com/albums/f392/DanRaitz/Trains/BN_2347.jpg http://i51.photobucket.com/albums/f392/DanRaitz/Trains/CN_5085.jpg http://i51.photobucket.com/albums/f392/DanRaitz/Trains/MNNR_82.jpg http://i51.photobucket.com/albums/f392/DanRaitz/Trains/OAKWAY_9028.jpg http://i51.photobucket.com/albums/f392/DanRaitz/Trains/SOO_768.jpg http://i51.photobucket.com/albums/f392/DanRaitz/Trains/SOO_771.jpg http://i51.photobucket.com/albums/f392/DanRaitz/Trains/SP_211.jpg http://i51.photobucket.com/albums/f392/DanRaitz/Trains/SP_8110.jpg
Crossing Shots of Steam Locomotive SP #745 Here are some crossing shots that I took in June as SP #745 steams from Liberty MO to Kearney MO on the old CB&Q Kearney Branch. It would then stay in Kearney until July 5th to celebrate the town Sesquicentennial before returnin to Union Station in Kansas City MO.
