Railway making comeback after flood damage Wichita Falls, TX Times Record News The Wichita Tillman & Jackson railway should be back in full operation today after incurring major washouts on its line during last week's floods. The short line railroad is a key link in agriculture delivery between rural southwest Oklahoma and the rail hub in Wichita Falls. General manager Marton Cicalla said the line had "lots of little spots" of damage along its route. Most of it occurred as washouts at bridges. At one point, 1,100 feet of track was washed out. He said repairs were about 95 percent finished late Tuesday. The company brought in a contractor to help, but Cicalla said most of the work was done by the railway's eight employees. The washouts have delayed the hauling of feed to the Altus area and left 75 carloads of wheat waiting to be brought back to Wichita Falls.
THAT is how things should be done- focusing on getting back in shape to service customers, not running them off with obscene surcharges and "oh-by-the-way-this-bridge-and -that-tunnel-have-been-in-bad-shape-since-before-we-took-over-and-we're-gonna-quit-now". Granted, there was coin spent in repairing washouts (new fill, relay track & ballast, etc), but WT&J's owners stepped up & spent it.
