Well gang, it was a long time leading to it, but today another Western Prototype Modeler's Meet took place in the city of La Habra, Ca. And what a great time was had! For those unfamiliar, Western Prototype Modelers is a loose-knit group that promotes scale modeling(ok, ok, rivet-counting! ). It originally started out as a group for modelers of the Western Pacific RR, but expanded to cover just about any prototype. Each year, a get-together is held here in SoCal, where modelers of all scales and railroads are invited to bring their models, photos and themselves for a day of meeting fellow model railroaders, swapping techniques, learning new stuff at clinics, checking out the things others have built/or are building, and just hanging out. It's really great to see the great work done by a lot of these guys(and gals!). Clinics for the day consisted of a behind-the-scenes look at Microscale Decals, a discussion of tunnel motor modeling, a breakdown of the EMD Dash-2 series phase differences, and a presentation on being a SoCal railroad engineer. Neat stuff; the tunnel motor modeling one was my fave. There was a popular vote contest for the best model in various categories, and the models entered were beautiful, like Cindy Winters' HO-scale NS SD80MAC, and Dave Hussey's awesome HO Santa Fe SD39(it took best in show, and the detail is incredible...the thing actually has see-through dynamic brake screens, with the grids and cables visible underneath! ). I had hoped to enter a model, but the engine I've been working on for oh-so-long still isn't finished...maybe next year! Overall, a great time...this was the second meet I've attended, and it was better than last years, IMHO. If any of you guys have a chance to attend a WPM meet, or equivalent modeling meet in your area, check it out, it can be lots of fun! ------------------ Have A Nice Day!
quote:
Originally posted by Gats: Mankind, is the meet held each year at the same time? And is there only the one per year? Gary.

Yep, it's usually held at the same time each year, early in October. And yes, it's the only one put on by Western Prototype Modelers. ------------------ Have A Nice Day!
