    Saturday's triple header to Lithgow.

    [ame="http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=3Gp4bem_muo"]YouTube- 3265, 3526 & 3642 triple heading to Lithgow.[/ame]

    For those not familiar with the line, the section from Valley Heights to Katoomba is 20 solid miles of 1 in 33 (3.03%).

    Thanks Sten, I love those beefy looking 80's and 81's - and most other Aussie locos. :thumbs_up:

    Thanks for the link Paul - that is an utterly amazing parade of vintage power, and of engineer's equipment. Must have been quite a possession!

    The sounds of those locomotives sure makes our poxy GM class 66's sound rubbish!

    That is just amazing! Hats off to all involved. Any idea what the max speed was?

    Only 80km/h (50mph) which is the maximum permissible speed of the water gins, although the locos themselves are accredited to run faster.

    Thanks David. Some lovely shots! I notice the diesels were working quite hard at times - is the gradient profile a bit demanding?

    Any idea when the return trip is being made Dave? The first shot at Emu Plains is around 900m Sydney side of my back fence!

    It was a one way empty car movement to Blayney. LVR is doing a charter from Orange to Bathurst and return on 30 July and shuttles from Orange to Spring Hill on 31 July/1 August.

    The next special out your way is the NSWRTM Silver City Aurora to Broken Hill on Thu 5 August, returning on the Sunday.

    Cheers

    4001 was officially returned to service at the New South Wales Rail Transport Museum today after restoration. Some photos from Chris Stratton's site.

    The 40 class is an Alco RSC-3 in a slightly smaller body. It was built in October 1951 by Montreal Locomotive Works.

    4001 has been restored in the livery it was given in 1954 to haul the Royal Train.

    Excellent footage David! In the first scene you were about 400m from my back fence!
