This is sad news for our community. The person killed is a local girl, I work with her mother. http://www.lex18.com/news/woman-killed-after-train-hits-truck-in-madison-county/ http://www.wkyt.com/home/headlines/100439869.html http://columbiamagazine.com/index.php?sid=38579 The news people seem to be making a big deal about no crossing gates. Heard a out this on the radio. Your coworker must be devastated. My condolences to the family The local radio guy was taking the distracted driving angle, citing that gates or no, it's hard for an attentive driver to not be warned of an approaching train. Personally; I always look both ways at crossings even if there's no warning, and I plan to teach my kids to do so. Of course, I'm hoping to do a little railfanning, but I'm also trying to be safe.
Ironically, I heard about this while stopped at a gates-down crossing wondering where the train was. A few seconds later it blew by at a good clip.
Yes, I too feel for the crew. They will have to live with this the rest of their lives. It has to be hard on them since they had no control on what happened. They know that there was nothing they could do to prevent it, but still keep thinking "What if?" and then all the investigating that will try to blame them some how. Gary
