    bigdave,

Is this a ezturnout with grey or black ballast? If it has 3 wires you need to wire it to a pushbutton type switch, not a dpdt that would burn the motor out.

Did you get this new in a package because they normally come with the needed switch.

    switch

Yes it came with a switch. Would it be best to use the one that came with the switch.

Yup. If bachman is like atlas, there is a black wire and maybe red and green ones. Most people use the black wire as the neutral it goes in the middle post of switch. Red and green on the outside posts. To use the switch you slide one way or the other and give it a quick push, hold it too long and the motor on the turnout will burn out.

    No Offense Meant

Hey guy, it was not at all a crude remark about your track. I was merely stating that I had just remembered there WAS Bachmann track. I'd forgotten. I judge no modlers on anything they choose to do..Oddly enough as I write, I am awaiting a Bachmann HO Tsunami 4-6-0..I just looked again at the dealer's photos of her and am now worried that the spoked wheels look solid with fake spokes.. Hope it's just the photo !!! I can't imagine such a state-of-the-art loco with automatic digital or analog run cabability skimping on the spokes !! Anyone out there have the answer ? Though I'll know any day now anyway..I just returned to same dealer a Bach K4 with a broken head light and decided to go to a ten wheeler instead..I'm nervous about the spokes now...Mark

    From the Bachman forum:
If your using the Bachmann power supply connect the red (2 wire) accessories plug to the Accessory outputs, then plug that into the side of the switch, then plug the green (3 wire) plug into the selector switch. then momentarily press down on the selector switch the turn out should switch over if not slide the switch into the other position and press down.
However, if you are running a DCC layout, you cannnot power Bachman switches by connecting them to either the Command Station or the 5 amp power pack because there is no terminal for powering DC accessories to connect the wire powering the switches to. You would have to power your switches by connecting them to a DC transformer. Just about any old one would suffice.

    Hi Mark,
I have a Bachmann Spectrum 4-6-0 in HO and the wheels are spoked...not fake. It's actually a great little locomotive..

I too just received a Bachmann 4-6-0 with the Tsunami sound. This is one great little steamer. The 4-6-0's are the backbone engines of my roster.

Can not believe the Spectrum engines are descendants of the Bachmann engines of old. I was somewhat hesitant to buy my first Spectrum steam engine a 2-8-0 but was pleasantly surprised by the quality of the engine. My first of many Spectrums. Yes there are the odd duds but Bachmann certainly stands behind their products.
