First off, enjoy the Thanksgiving weekend for those of you residing in the USA. I am preparing the laser cut design work for a new project I to model the SP Goleta Depot. I will share model details about that soon. My question, what material can I use for the glass in the windows and is safe for laser cutting? Thanks in advance! -Tiest Sent from my iPad using Tapatalk
Acetate sheet works, so does Duralar sheet, but Mylar sheet is the best. It has a super reflective appearance, that makes Z Scale windows really POP! It also laser cuts great. The way I like to cut it, is use the highest power you can that leaves the glazing still attached to the sheet, but you can pop each piece out of the sheet easily.
This may or may not pertain to you, but diode lasers are tough to use for clear materials. I'm looking for a solution for this as well, but I have a diode laser and everything I've tried so far is no-go. I've even tried to sandwich between cut-able materials and couldn't get a clean cut on the stuff. Mike
Hey Tiest. I have taken a lot of detail pics of Goleta depot ( Exterior and Interior) . It was just down the road from my parents house in Goleta and I always went down there when I came across to California to visit them . If they are useful I can post them here https://i.imgur.com/ugPI85a.jpg to anyone else, who happens to find themselves in California, the depot is well worth a visit and my favourite coffee mug . back in the U.K is a 'Goleta, Keeping it local ' one I bought at the museum Kev
Thanks all, Here is a picture of my latest burns in z scale. They fit neatly on the 1:220 designs I am using as a reference. Looking for the right S.P. yellow and brown colors if anyone has any thoughts. .rray got it and just bought. Kez yes, love to see the details, the current website is great but can't find the track plan. tjdreams You were right, change in scope rekindled my joy! Thanks! -Tiest Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
WOW Tiest, you are mastering that laser cutter magnificently. Dang, if I weren’t so invested in working with my 3D printer and so short of time due to still working a 40+ hr work week, I’d be tempted to break down and invest in a better laser cutter, just so I can keep up with you and Rob….
Rob, As always you nailed it - thanks for sharing! I hope to get in the proximity once I am done. Will share updates as I progress here. Do you remember by chance the yellow and brown colors you used in your prototype? Thanks! -Tiest Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
Lance - Always to kind. Glad I put the Gaviota project on the back burner and focus on a little building instead. I hear you 100% with limited time. Enjoy your 3D printed items though! -Tiest Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
Here are my instructions. If you open the PDF with a vector drawing program, you can even harvest all the line drawings and import directly into Lightburn. You would still need to adjust the tabs and slots for the thickness of the materials you used for the best parts fit. Anyways, they have the colors listed in there.
speedbird , I ordered from https://www.wurthmachinery.comWurth Louis and Company. In search, type 'Polybak' and several products, varying in thickness are available. These roles are a lifetime's worth. I purchased 0.024", 0.020" and 0.011". When ordering you do need to register. Thanks! -Tiest Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
And ordered! Thanks! by the way, are there any sources for laser cut structure files? I design my own, but it’s best to see what others have done as well! Thanks!
Good morning. I like to design my own and was fortunate enough to purchase a laser printer. I like the 'pre work' that goes into pulling together the designs and learn a thing or two about the structure I am trying to scratch build. -Tiest Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
