Hard to see SP lettering on a clearly Rio Grande car, but it sure beats UP yellow!

Usually the railroads called them "Office Cars" whereas those belonging to other companies in other industries were many times referred to as "Business Cars" or "Private Varnish" if they just belonged to private parties. PVs many times did not have an open platform.

For the benefit of the class (or in meme style, "asking for a friend"), is PV private varnish?

Love all these passenger and business cars you have been sharing. For those interested in such journeys, the UP heritage passenger fleet is well-appointed. Their fleet is in great shape and they take great care in their maintenance. Having spent a bit of time in them on various excursions, it's like stepping back in time.

Gee, Hemi, I thought I splained all about PVs in a post above. :p https://www.trainboard.com/highball/index.php?threads/wils-slide-box.105632/page-73#post-1162216

Yeah, I have been fortunate to have been able to ride on those UP cars multiple times. Back in the late 80s and early 90s, the UP would bring them down to Texas for various excursions. The Gulf Coast Chapter NRHS would sponsor the trips, sell tickets and provide "crews" to host the guests. I worked variously as a car host or selling concessions. My favorite place was dealing soft drinks and chips in the City Of Los Angeles, a dome/lounge/observation car at the end of the train. When the train would stop and unload passengers for a photo run-by, I would head up into the dome and wave at everyone when we cruised by before returning to pick them all up. Years later I was able to ride a number of safety awareness specials using many of the same cars.
