I'm kinda new to the board and just thought it be kinda neat to find out who's who and modeling what... Guess i'll start~ I'm a student undeclared, 21, loved trains all my life and got into modeling around 91'. BN and SF were always favorites so the BNSF result is what i'm currently modeling but my ultimate goal would be to model the whole Colorado area(I love all the railroads that are and were in the area). I'm building a new layout to P:87 specs, but the old one has to come down first which i've started doing. I currently have about 20+ projects stalled waiting for that Accurail Protomate... Ok, we've heard from the Front Range, so now from the Western Slope..... : I'm 40-something, married, four kids, a follower of shortlines but in my heart a fan of the Frisco. Been in the hobby since 1973, and have enjoyed it ever since. While the Colorado RR scene is awesome, I still have a desire to model the Frisco's Cherokee Subdivision in the late 1970s. Back then, Santa Fe units were on runthroughs, UP locos were seen on potash & grain extras, SCL and Southern 6-axle stuff stayed on the hot- shots, and the BN merger was a ways off. Who woulda thought nowadays people would wax nostalgically over BN and Conrail, or that Santa Fe's "Super Fleet" paint jobs would look so bad? I have an HO layout in my basement that has Frisco power, with a couple of UP units tossed in here & there. Haven't considered P:87, but it sounds pretty good- seen an ad in MR for P:87 turnouts. Oh yes, I'm two blocks from the ex-Rio Grande East Yard, and see UP, Beansniff, and Amtrak roll thru every day. Lotta GE AC4400Ws over here..... ------------------ Ship IT on the Frisco! Hi, I'm in my late '50s, broadcasting exectutive, model HO with Lenz DCC in the steam era. Current project: building an 18inch rise helix. I live on the Connecticut shoreline, 'bout a mile from the Confused Corridor, and some day if I don't die from old age, before they fix it, hope to ride on the Acela Express. I am a 36-year old weather observer/entrepreneur living in Petersburg, Alaska (at this instant...). I own a small hobby store called Creative Enterprises. (Shameless plug http://www.alaska.net/~phbentz/) I model the Spokane, Portland and Seattle and Southern Pacific railroads in Oregon, circa 1965. I don't have a layout at the moment, due to too little room and three children, with two more on the way. In fact, I'm flying down to Portland, OR this morning to meet my wife, who is pregnant with twins. Doesn't look like I'll be building that railroad anytime soon! Briefly, I am a 60 year old computer guru at a university career center. Married with children. J I have a free lance HO scale railroad loosely based on parts of central and southern Indiana assuming that the ECI bought up rail lines as Penn Central abandoned them. I returned to active modeling in 1980 and have been at it since. I am currently bringing the railroad into the 80s with Tortoise switch machines and LEDs. I am in my late 50's, married, two 'boys' one 25 the other (sticky monk) is 22. I started being interested in trains in about 1957, and modelling them shortly afterwards. I have always enjoyed scratchbuilding, and started in British OO, our equivalent of HO, but to 4mm=1ft. Progressed to O scale, 7mm=1ft., then to #1 scale, because by this time I was building this scale professionally. I have been a full time self-employed model builder for 12 years, but part-time for several years before that. Hi Ben .. welcome to Trainboard! We are glad you joined us! I'm a 62 year old retired California Highway Patrolman. I'm divorced and have 4 children and 13 grandchildren. I have been modeling HO and HOn3 for many years. I have a full basement that is full of unfinished benchwork and rails. My modeling focus is on my "Cringe Gulch Lumber and Transportation Company", (HOn3) and Southern Pacific circa WW2 era. The primary reason my layout is in such an unfinished state is because I have discovered that prototypical railroading is more fun! I am an engineer and fireman on the Yreka Western RR, (a shortline) located in northern California. Additionally, I run a small business from my office located in my home. One thing Bill left out...he loves to lay in front of trains! Ok, My turn. I'm Brent Tidaback, I live in Lincoln, IL., in the Heart of "Sacred Central Illinois". I'm 36, and single(DRAT! ). I have been into trains as far back as I can remember. I started my foray into this hobby with N-Scale when I was Five. That lasted until the following Christmas, when I got my first HO Tyco train set, but I moved up in quality eventually. Skip ahead twenty-three years...I moved to Baton Rouge, LA. and converted all my HO into N-Scale and joined the Baton Rouge Model Railroaders, N-Trak Division. I have ever since Modeled the Santa Fe, Burlington Northern, and BNSF Railways along with my fictional, Aransas Odessa & Western Railroad, a division of BNSF. My current N-Trak Modules depict the fictional town of "Gridley, TX." located near the real Beeville, TX. between San Antonio and Corpus Christi, TX. This area in real life is served by the former SP, now UP. But in my world, BNSF and AOW are the Kings of the rail! UP runs on a branch line that is part of the Rock Island and Texas Pacific railways. That's it in a nutshell. ------------------ RAILROADING-TO-THE-MAX! I like Ben, am a student at USF (Criminology- with hopes of becoming a FMP officer after school) and have been intersted in trains since I was born, as my great grandfathers and grandfathers, worked on the SAL,UP,ACL,and B&O as engineers, brakemen, Hogs, and in maintainence. I have alot of railroad history in me, and love every bit of it. I grew up in Central FL, and went to school(first 3 years) in NC, and there found my love for NS and the Piedmont region. I have recently switched from HO to N and love my modeling even more, so many new challeneges I never had to deal with in HO (multiple renumbers, smaller details, longer trains, and the dreaded assembly of MTs ). I have been modeling prototype for about 8 years and cannot wait until retirement so I can really settle down and build the Great One. Just like to say howdy to everyone and anytime anyone wants to talk trains drop me a note, as I am always willing, ready, and able, and if I don't know it I can find someone who does. Ben, thanks for starting this thread. I am a computer consultant for pay (retired from IBM about 5 years ago). Obviously I am a rail fan, or else I wouldn't be here. To further my railfanning, I am a photographer and do a little HO modeling. I also volunteer as a tour guide at the Danbury Railway Museum, in Danbury, CT. I'm 51 years old, work as a postal consultant for the USPS. Started on trains at the age of 7, went through all scales (and mistakes as well) and companies german, belgian, french and british railways (LMS - BR and GWR) to end up by the Americans. (i did not regret this!!!) my main interest is Conrail, as I did a lot of railfanning on the east coast. But now I have changed to my own companies. The "Emerald valley" that is in G scale, modern diesels and live steam locomotives and in Ho scale; diesels the "Rappannahock Terminal". together with my two friends I built also a layout in Ho for exhibition purposes (see pics on other posts), only to show that with simple resources and on a small space you can build a simple and interesting layout with a lot of operational possibilities. Another View From the Western Slope... I am John Cater, 38, married, 3 very active boys. I am an archaeologist when I am not modeling . I model a fictional part of the southwestern Colorado mountains in the year 1890. Although I would love to model narrow gauge, I can't afford it, so the Colorado and Southwestern is a standard gauge subsidiary of the Colorado Midland, one of the few real standard gauge lines to make it into the Rockies. I like the time period because by 1890 there were a lot of "new" innovations available for railroads, I love steam, and it was the height of the gold and silver extraction period in the mountasins. The road is small (4x8) and was really built as a learning module for my kids. I have built several other layouts in my modeling life, including two HO scale, one N scale and one G scale. Hi Ben, I am another Ben; I am 49 and have lived in the NW London suburbs all my life. I am a civil litigation lawyer employed for about the last 20 years by a firm in the City of London (you can see my office in one of Pierce's photographs on his web site (and by the way, Pierce, we call it the "River Thames" or just the "Thames", not "Thames River" and just "Tower Bridge" not "the Tower Bridge"))and was a local government town planning officer for a few years before that after leaving college; I am married with two "typical" teenage children of 16 and 14 (d'you all know what I mean by "typical"?). I have always loved railways from about age 2 and have owned railway models most of my life; I cannot in all honesty call myself a modeller; I did part-build a small 00 gauge layout when I was about 12 but it never got finished and I have put together 2 very simple etched-brass kits but apart from that I cannot be bothered to build anything, either layout or models; I haven't got the inclination. I simply like acquiring, admiring and running trains, principally nowadays in Gauge 3 (i.e. 2 1/2 inch gauge scenic railways) and 0 gauge (live steam) and n scale American (a very recent interest). I would never dream of "weathering" a beautiful new model (I know I would only ruin it in any event). I also love cameras (medium format), photography, music (Howlin' Wolf, Sonny Boy 2, Muddy, Little Walter, Robert Junior Lockwood, Barbecue Bob, Papa Charlie, Robert Johnson and many, many others and, in contrast, Puccini and Al Bowlly), cricket, football (that means Association Football), watching the Tour de France on TV and many other interests and hobbies that I dip into when work and family life allow enough time. Alan introduced me to Trainboard and it is fascinating to be able to communicate with so many very interesting people from all around the world on the subject we all love. Ben

I am 39 with 2 kids, 1 teenage boy and one 10 yr old girl. I have been modeling in N-scale for about 18 yrs. I model the 1960-70 period on the Southern and the Interstate RR. I work in material support (aircraft parts) for a major airline. I have a small layout on a door right now. By the first of the year, I will be starting a new basement layout, with a new house over it.

Have you ever made the trip up to "Junction" to check out the Grand Valley Model RR Club? We just finished "roughing out" and painting our new section house at Cross Orchards- all we need are the electricians to come out & install the outlets & switches (darn city codes!), get the toilet & sink put in, & we're good to go! We'll next move our HO and N modules in the new building, set 'em up, work on 'em and just run trains for giggles until we get the layout built. My layout, the Oklahoma & North Eastern, is not quite modern (1970s) as it doesn't have any BNSF running, but it's almost all Frisco. The kids have run trains on it, and enjoy doing so.
