From Eugene, OR, this bit of news: From KMTR-TV, posted today: The Lane County Sheriff's Office said it was a first for them this morning when they received a call about a man was trying to steal a Union Pacific locomotive, with several rail cars attached. The train crew says Caleb Joshua Gary, 22, was seen in the driver's seat of the locomotive, pressing buttons and levers that are used to move the train. The crew said Gary was obviously intoxicated when they caught him early Wednesday morning, near Judkins Rd. in Eugene. When confronted, the crew says Gary refused to move and began to harass them. Sheriff's deputies say Gary took advantage of a moment when the crew wasn't looking. "It's my understanding that the folks that were driving the railroad were taking a break, so it's not like it was just sitting there vacant and no one was around, I think it was there still running, still operational and this person had snuck on to the train when no one was around and no one was looking," said Sgt. Clint Riley from the Lane County Sheriff's Office. Sheriff's deputies caught up with Gary a few blocks away near the intersection of Glenwood and Franklin blvd. He's charged with unauthorized use of a vehicle and trespassing. (NOTE: Wonder of our hero was finally "persuaded" to leave the locomotive by the crew......... )
That could be overturned as a bogus charge. Locomotives are not classified as vehichles. Interesting none the less.
Apparently Einstein earlier snuck aboard an Amtrak locomotive and tried to get it to move before the crew chased him off. He's also been setting small fires around town. A real genius, this one is.....
