One of the most beautifully restored and seldom operated steamers was out today, running from Los Angeles to San Diego and return. No one railfanned or got any photos? I'm disappointed. I sure would have been there but am about 1000 miles away.

God grief! Nobody even mentioned it happening. Where is the fan community?

Thousands upon thousands were out. The #$%^& was running an hour and a half late southbound to where I was waiting and then didn't make it past the same spot (La Costa ave. Luecadia) until 7:00pm northbound half an hour after it was due back in LA.

I got pictures, but I've spent 5 hours total standing around waiting for it, so I need to wash up and eat something and then I'll comence to uploading.

Also, I met fellow trainboarder Pete Steinmetz this morning.

YoHo, I just got an email from my great friend and ex-boss Lee Glouner, who lives in Carlsbad, is not a railfan, but because of my email to him alerting him to the event, he stayed out there for four hours and got a few shots he sent me. Some friends are really great friends, you know?

That is a good friend. I had my wife stationed at Carlsbad Village Station with a friend's old Digital. None of her shots turned out. My mother in law it turns out was at Pointsettia where they watered her on the way down and I guess did some photo run bys. She walked there from our place and of course didn't bring a camera of any kind.

    Anyway, on with the pictures.

First off.....Hey how did this get in there:

It was a test shot honest....
ANyway, Finally after hours of waiting, She struted her way across the lagoon
The haze in all my Telephoto shots is horrible. Every single one suffered today.

Whoa, Dude, what's that on the Tracks bro.

And yet again off Las Pulgas rd in Camp Pendelton, I wait for her to be watered and for this to get by. Don't you know we're losing sun here buddy?

And finally, and "arty" shot as she rides off into the sunset and leaves San Diego County.
In this case "arty" means the camera didn't think there was enough light and I didn't have the shutter on manual so the exposure was too long.

Now, I must cover myself in Aloe so that my entire face doesn't peel off. It was worth the hours of wait I must say to see her strut her stuff.

I have a few more shots in my brand new railimages gallery and a bunch more I didn't upload.
I really wish it hadn't been so hazy in the morning, but eh, what ya gonna do?

Thanks, Yoho for posting those. Railfanning is alive and well in SoCal. Here is one of the shots that my friend Lee got, at Carlsbad.

Did he get any with the Station in the shot?

That's what I had my wife positioned for, but the camera couldn't keep up with a moving object.

Turnout seemed to be fairly good considering what appeared to be a lack of pub from the local papers and newscasts. I took my Dad out to Oceanside and Torrey Pines State Park to have a look. Several people at both locations decided to hang out and wait after asking why so many people were standing around. Delays and all it was great to see this engine again.

Actually, the TV news did run stories about it. That's how my MIL knew (she didn't notice me talking about it)

Also an impressive turnout given the marathon that was being run in San Diego.

I'm trying to get a picture of the station on it's own. My wife may have remembered today.
