I have been looking around for information on where the Milwaukee Road ran their E-7's, specifically number 16 through 20. I have looked through some of my books and it appears that they were used at least some of the time on the Hiawatha route. If it makes a difference, I am mostly looking at the period during which these wore a maroon/orange/silver scheme. Thanks, Adam
Well, I think I found an answer. I obtained John Strauss' book on Milwaukee Road passenger trains and it appears that these E-7s mostly ran the Hiawatha route. I would still be interested in additional information if anyone has it, such as range of years that they ran or whether they ever ran on other routes, such as the Midwest Hiawatha or the Chippewa or even the Olympian Hiawatha. Thanks in advance, Adam
I know the E7 power showed up out west, after electrics, in the yellow scheme. However, a combination of E8A, FP7, F7B power was most common. Boxcab E50
Thanks for asking this one Adam... I am also wondering just when (or if) and how long, MILW ran E7's in this scheme. I just received two of the MILW PCM/BLI E7's today from MBKlein. They sure look Great!! :tb-cool:
I am looking forward to receiving mine. I ordered two last week - same livery. I saw a UP one being demonstrated once and I was quite impressed with it.
I have pics of the E7's on the morning Hi,the afternoon Hi,the Olympian, and the Midwest Hi. I can find them listed in consists at least till 1965. I believe they were purchased in 1946 and arrived in the Hiawatha steam colors. They stayed that way till the 1952 orange and maroon scheme arrived, and ended in the UP yellow scheme. Not sure when they were retired.......they might have survived till the end in commuter service....a lot of the E's and FP7's ended that way.
As I understand it, they were mostly traded to EMD in 1969. I think one of them was wrecked shortly before the trade. I do NOT remember where I saw that tid-bit, however, so I can't back it up. I think I found it on an online Milwaukee Road diesel locomotive roster.
