Trains Newswire is carrying a story today about a collision that happened Friday night at the diamonds in Rochelle, IL. A rail grinder working westbound on the UP mainline sideswiped an eastbound BNSF stack train as it crossed the diamonds. The trains weren't derailed, but a few containers were knocked loose and their contents thrown along the right-of-way. A few choice webcam shots taken as the incident occurred were saved and can be seen here: http://www.trains.com/Content/Dynamic/Articles/000/000/005/789jguzp.asp Whoops!
If I had known about it (or if I was watching the webcam Friday) I would have been there too on Saturday. Rochelle's not too far of a drive from Madison. Both mainlines were reopened on Saturday, so traffic is somewhat back to normal now.
