Im planning on going to Kentucky Railway Museum to ride behind L&N #152 Steam engine. Im so exited about this weekend and ill try to get lots of photos!
Well, I don't have an "railfanning" per se this weekend, but I am going to ride the Texas Eagle with some friends and my parents up from Austin to Temple, Texas for a late birthday (very late... my birthday's January 23rd :teeth and end-of-school year party. There's a park next to the Amtrak station in Temple, which is where the "party" will take place. :shade:
Well, I don't have an "railfanning" per se this weekend, but I am going to ride the Texas Eagle with some friends and my parents up from Austin to Temple, Texas for a late birthday and end-of-school year party. Sounds close enough to count as railfanning to me! Enjoy, wish I could join you on the trip. There's a park next to the Amtrak station in Temple, which is where the "party" will take place. Isn't that the old station that's been redone and has a rail museum inside? The closest thing to railfanning I'll get to do this weekend is living vicariously through photos the rest of you upload to RailImages. Regards Ed
Ed, yes, that's Temple's Railroad and Heritage Museum. There's a park a couple hundred feet west with a gazebo and tables, and trees.
Driving along the Transcon No railfanning plans here. I'll be flying out Friday A.M. to Phoenix to drive our new van back to Illinois. Stopping Friday night in Amarillo TX. If anyone has any good suggestions for a place to see trains in Amarillo let me know. Tim
It's memorial Day weekend, and this Saturday I'm pulling some OT so the regular staff person can have the day off. Sunday I'm staying in town- if I do ANY railfanning, it'll be at the CSX/NS/HOG diamonds. I shy away from traveling on holiday weekends. While you're at it, stay safe, drive carefully, and watch out for the other guy.
Well I am planning on doing some railfanning on the W&A sub, Tilford and Inman yard (from public roads) AWP sub Manchester sub and the NS GA div north. This will be done some on Friday and some on Saurday. I want to see the Amtrak Cresent as well so I can get it on video. So as of now I will around Austell either Friday evening or Sat am to do that.
IIRC, the Manchester runs from Peachtree City down to Manchester, whee it joins up with the Fitzgerald from Waycross. Where does the NS GA div. north run?
I never thought I'd say this but I am about railfanned out for a while after a marathon "Train Jam" with my son last week. We caught the westbound Capitol Limited from Cleveland to Chicago on Thursday morning staying in a Superliner Roomette. When we got to Chicago we went up in the Sears Tower before catching the California Zephyr to Galesburg, Illinois where we picked up our rental car. We stayed at the Super 8 in Galesburg that night and checked out the next morning. The activities for this day included watching a BNSF inspection train prepare to depart from the Amtrak station. Then we went to Peck Park, Thirwell Road bridge and the Cameron Connection. Late in the afternoon we set out for Rochelle, Illinois, 2 hours northeast. We got to Rochelle in the late afternoon on a beautiful evening. We met some very nice folks as usual and after a few hours we checked in at the Super 8 in Rochelle. The next day we went to the Illinois Railway museum in Union and then spent the rest of the day at the diamond in Rochelle. The next morning we spent at the diamond again before setting out again for the return trip to Galesburg and then home. We got to Galesburg in time to do a bit more railfanning at Peck Park and the Amtrak Station before once again checking in at the Super 8 for the night. The next morning we checked out and returned our rental car bright and early before catching the Illinois Zephyr back to Chicago. Arriving in Chicago around 10:30AM, we had the whole day to burn in Chicago before the Lakeshore Limited departed east that night at 10:00PM. We walked and took CTA and Metra trains to the Shedd Aquarium for the afternoon. We then took CTA and Metra trains to Geno's for pizza before returning to Union Station to catch our train home. We had a nice suprise to find out that sleeping car passengers are now invited aboard the Lakeshore Limited 2 hours before departure to get settled in and then to the dining car for a wine and cheese send-off. Our Viewliner Roomette was very nice for the trip home. Both my son and I slept pretty well but I was awoken more than a few times by the rough ride and the alarmingly high speed we seemed to be travelling. We arrived in Cleveland a full 15 minutes early. All-in-all, we had a truly great time but I think I have had my fill of railfanning for a while. At least until early next week. LOL!
Man I had fun on the Steam Excursion today! I still have that whistle in my head. I seen a few of my friends. And had a few friends that was the crew! I got alot of pictures now its just seeing which one's is good enough to post!
I got off work tonite, and the smoke from the consistent fires has blown into town bigtime. If/when the wind changes, I'll go to the diamonds in town to do some shootin'. I did notice CSX has changed out the GEs with a GP40-2/GP38-2 duo for local switching, so I'll hopefully get shots of that as well, plus some stuff I saw in the HOG yard east of town.
