Well me and my dad will probably get up early and head out to osborn yard maybe even go to churchill downs for a little bit but thats about it for mee
Depends how busy the C&I is, I may go to Steward IL to railfan. With my ATCS Monitor I can now see how traffic is before I drive 30 min and end up only seeing 1 in 4 hours. ATCS Monitor, best thing since sliced bread
I am heading to Wyoming for my nephew's first birthday party. I plan on leaving early Saturday morning and taking the longer way to get there along old US 30 instead of I-80 the whole way. US 30 parallels the UP line most of the way. Maybe get a shot or two if they are available.
Nothing this weekend but planning a six week interstate trip most of which will be spent camping beside or near the main railway line that runs between Sydney and Melbourne, should hit the road at the end of January.
Alex, I won't do anything THIS weekend except plan for what I will do on the weekends of Dec. 8-10 and 15-17. On those weekends, the Portland, OR steamers will be operating the Holiday Express, running 40 minute trips on the Oregon Eastern (I know that's not the right name, keep forgetting it). I will either go up there and work in a concession booth or just go ride. Haven't decided. When you're old it takes time to make up your mind. :teeth:
I usually go to the St Denis MARC station. From there I will travel north through Halethorpe, Lansdowne and into south Baltimore or south to photograph the old main line or the St Thomas viaduct. Lately, they are replacing the wood ties with concrete and moving the interlocking closer to the platform. The traffic has been good. 15 trains in 5 hours. If you wish to see more passenger trains, The Penn line crosses about a mile away with decent opportunities to see the acela at speed along with metro-liners & MARC commuter trains.
I actually did go to Steward! I'd never been to the Steward IL area to railfan before. It's a little town about 6 miles south of Rochelle along the C&I. I found a good spot just outside of town and shot these pictures: (the first shot is different than usual because it was coming right as I arrived)
well for me the 17 -19 I will be in south Alabama and Georgia doing some railfanning. Plans are to revisit some shortlines that I have shot in the past and then get some new ones. Well they are new to me. I am focusing on the roads that the Genesee and Wyoming have bought. Such as the Chattachoocee Industrial and the Bay Line. I will have pics up of the results one day next week.
