all of them! My collection is divided roughly 50/50 between steam railroading and electric traction. one of my all time favorites for steam is "The Trains we Rode" by Lucius Bebbe and Charles Clegg, but another good history is "Railroads Triumphant-(subtitled) by Prof. Albro Martin. Some good traction is "Interurban Era" by Wm.Middleton & "Chicago Surface Lines" by A.R. Lind and THE definitive history of electric interurban railways "The Electric Interurban Railway in America" by Prof.George W.Hilton & John F.Due. So many titles, so little space.... CT
Charlie, I agree, all of them! Recent acquisition of David P. Morgan's "The Mohawk That Refused to Abdicate" has become an instant favorite. What a writing style, and the photography of Phillip Hastings.
Modern High Horsepower Locomotives by Brian Soloman 1997-98 Motive Power Guides for both UP and BNSF GE Locomotives by Brian Soloman Roaring U50's by Rev Harold Keekley
The very first books I had which introduced me to railfanning: "Erie Lackawanna East" by Karl Zimmerman and "NYO&W: The Final Years" by Crist/Krause My all time favorite: "ERIE POWER" by westing and Stauffer.
Yup, the O&W was a neat railroad. In 1986 as I was turkey hunting along the abandoned right of way in Bloomingburg, NY, I stumbled upon the top of an old water can of sorts. The body was completely rusted away but the spout and upper rim survived. Along the rim was stamped "NYO&W". I left the can there thinking it was too far gone to be of any value. I kick myself to this day for NOT taking it home. I did go home with some O&W coal chunks though. Ohh! didn't even see any turkeys, and really didn't care. A Passion for Trains by Richard Steinheimer Jim Boyd's three volumes of Baldwin Diesels in Color Any of the four books by D.C. I simply have gotta get a Stein book sometime..... His photos are amazing! Eventually, I want the GN reference books 1-8 as well... But at their current price point, too rich for my blood.
The "Pool Power West" book by Bob Hangee. It;s git lots of pictures and NONE of them are pure consists from any railroad. Definately helped (or hurt) my railroad buying habits depending on how you look at it. Now I run what I want where I want and have prototypical photos to back it up!
I haven't seen anyone mention O.Winston Link's books. I have "Steam,Steel & Stars" Amazing photography! CT
