I seen them in a old book, I was just wondering if they went the way of the Doo-Doo bird or if someone , some where is using at least some of them?? Any known in a Museum?
Although there are some folks wishful of one being in a museum, none went that route. I'm not certain how many, or if all nine went south. But in recent years, some were sold to a South American operation. Boxcab E50
Yes. There were originally two orders each of five, total ten units. One engine was wrecked early on. Boxcab E50
Which one? I know there are some SD39-somethings in Chile, and they are quite short, but I thought they were rebuilt, retrucked GP40s.
All 9 surviving SDL39's went to South America several years ago. They were operating on the Wisconsin Central when it was acquired by CN, and were then declared surplus. They had their gauge changed to match the wider track of their new owners.

Then again, it's clear the hood has been lowered. What exactly were these?
Those are SD39-2Ms... 14 rebuilt by NREX from GP35s, GP40s and a GP38-2 in 1997-1998 FEPASA 2350 rebuilt from former Katy GP40 172 FEPASA 2351 rebuilt from former Gulf, Mobile & Ohio GP35 640 FEPASA 2352 rebuilt from former Southern Pacfiic GP35 7769 FEPASA 2353 rebuilt from former Rock Island GP40 351 FEPASA 2354 rebuilt from former Katy GP40 179 FEPASA 2355 rebuilt from former Erie-Lackawanna GP35 2582 FEPASA 2356 rebuilt from former Erie-Lackawanna GP35 2576 FEPASA 2357 rebuilt from former EMDX (later Milwuakee Road)GP40 2068 FEPASA 2359 rebuilt from former Union Pacific GP38-2 2026 Don't know the others...
Not sure if they have "faux" SD39's, but I do know that the 9 SDL39's all are owned and operated by them at this point.
I was referring to the rebuilds mentioned on the previous page. No need for the frown - it just means that South American railways got more interesting.
Ya, and they are still alive and kickin' atleast.(Orange & Black still looks better though!) How do they re-gauge those trucks? It would be hard enough doing standard EMD trucks, let alone the unique SDL-39 ones.
Given that the trucks on the SDL39 were narrow guage export trucks modified to accept D77s... modifying them back to accept D29s probably wasn't that difficult.
