How about information on the KatoUSA webpage??? Is that good enough? Click the smiley face at the bottom of their main page and you'll see the poster they put out with their new releases...

Kato has not made the announcement yet. I was board and found the link the other night to their new project poster. I think Kato did this intentionally to see how long it would take us to find it.

I disagree, I think putting your new season projects on your website *is* announcing it...I do agree though that they have done it in a very subtle way, and most likely that is to test how quickly the information gets around. [IMG]

    FWIW,
the website of the "hobby shop east of New York City..." has a pseudo-announcement about the 70macs. nothing about prices, road numbers etc. Remember that the proprietor of this hobby shop has been very critical of kato's limited release patterns of the late 90's, yet he knows enough to put the word out, but doesn't have the specifics YET...
Before 78% of the board flames me and the hobby shop, I'm not mentioning the website by name. If you would like the website URL, please e-mail me ednsfan@yahoo.com

The fact that the 70MAC's are on their 2002 poster, isn't the same as an "announcement" from Kato.

It's when they release the planned ship date, that they consider the item announced.

It wouldn't surprise me if we didn't see these until 1st Q 2003.

I agree. Remember the P42's and Superliners were on the 2000 poster and we didn't see those until 2002..... [IMG]

Does it matter that they haven't made an official announcment yet with a release date and order numbers? That seems like splitting hairs at this point. The fact that Kato has shown they are going to make them is the whole point here...

The way I see it all you can read into the poster is that YEs Kato will be releasing the SD70's in the near future.

Even when Kato do make an official announcement the date they announce doesnt necessarily mean the model will be ready by then.

I'm just happy that the model is being released at least we have time to save for them.

I must have a slight bit of confusion here over the word "announcement"...

If a company says publicly that they will produce a product (as Kato has just done), surely that *is* an announcement? They may not have given every last detail of it yet, but they have now publicly said that they are doing SD70MAC's.

    Martyn,
I whole-heartedly agree with you on this. Come on people, if Kato puts something on a poster, that's announcing it no matter how you spin it. When the P42's showed up on that same poster, nobody had any doubt that Kato would indeed release a P42. There were posts all over the place about "Kato announces Genesis" and so on and so forth. Nobody batted an eye then so why is this any different? Because they put it behind a "hidden" link? This is indeed splitting hairs....we should be discussing how great this is, not how Kato may "pull the rug out from under us" or change their mind or whatever wild scenarios you guys propose that would prevent this from being an "announcement".

I hope the Kato SD70's materialize.... I would like to have some... [IMG]

I am not trying to start any trouble, but does anyone else remember Kato's announcement that they were going to produce the many varieties of SD40-2's? By my count, we have only seen 2 :( Where are the others?

Yes Kato will do them! The only question is when... Remember- Kato will reserve the right to make changes from changing road numbers to pushing back the production date to never. Or at least till they are in the hobby shop.

    Now lets start saving! :D

PS They have announced them. Just not offically as they still seem to deny that they will be doing them. Or have they said they would?

Nah, no flames from here! :D :D The last one with the gasoline & matches left the building.

Let me guess- are the initials Bravo Lima Whiskey?? ;)

And since I'm here, I've been in the hobby long enough not to take any announcement for gospel- I well remember announcements for locomotives that turned out to be "vaporware" or wishful thinking.
I'd love to believe there will be SD70MOAC coming from Kato (or any manufacturer), but I'll believe it when I actually see one at my local train pusher- and Lobo Mountain gets lots of the latest & greatest in all scales.

There's an axiom somewhere that says for any
new product coming out in X amount of time, add X+1 to that time & you'll get a correct ETA of the product.

Let's all take a deep breath & relax, check out the Kato site (and that poster), and for those Big Mac fans, start saving those pennies! [IMG] [IMG]

    Highball, y'all!

To add to Kato's playing around with, if you look in the "news flash" box the last scroll line is that dang smiley just smirking at us!
I think they like messing with us. [IMG] [IMG]
