For me, the scale of choice is On30. While I like the On3, it seems too tight and tied into prototypes of one railroad. With my On30 the equipment can be mixed and no one will care. I like the EBT steel hoppers, but you wouldn't see them on the SP narrow gauge. On my On30, they can be used and not bring the wrath of the rivet counters. Another narrow gauge that might be fun to play with would be the Sn42, which by the way uses HO standard gauge track. With an HO track gauge, hand laid track would be easy. So anyone have any preferences and why? Greg [ 21. September 2003, 10:03: Message edited by: Greg Elems ]
My choice is Sn3. There are also a lot of people that are tired and true HOn3 and Sn3ers that are playing around with On30. Like Greg said, no rivit counters with On30.
To narrow the field abit,my main choice is 0n30 ,wit a growing interest in HOn30. My number one scale though is N and will be till I can't see the little buggars anymore
When speaking specifically of narrow gauge, I am a long time admirer of the Hayden & Frary HOn30 efforts! Boxcab E50
While the On30 line doesn't follow much of a prototype, I like it! You can do a decent freelance narrow-gauge line (that 2-foot tram line in Colorado comes to mind) and get away with it. But knowing me, I'd forsake using the HO track and go with handlaid, just to make it look good. Now if I could survive the wrath of my railroad club and the inevitable divorce proceedings started by the missus.........
I am primarily an N scaler. I am developing an interest in On30 modeling as a second scale. Not to mention as I get older I keep needing thicker glasses.
I model in 1/24 scale, cause my measuring devices all come with that scale on it. hehehe Plus it's easy to make lots of scale lumber /timbers, on my tablesaw, to build projects. I find , being a cheap person, that B-mann make engines and cars that not only look good but run good too. Works for me !!!
Thanks Greg, I been here, just have not posted much.. Not up to date on smaller scales anymore. Not since I went to Largescale outdoors..
