I ran across these pictures on the NERAIL website. A Pan-Am (Guilford) MEC unit was, for reasons that seem to defy logic, making a run down a line in Cambridge MA that I always thought was abandoned. Predictably (at least to me) it got stuck: http://photos.nerail.org/showpic/?photo=2007020923422025364.jpg&byrail:3:Guilford Here’s a view of what was in front of it had it made it past the mud pit. Note the slight tilt of the derailed loco: http://photos.nerail.org/showpic/?photo=2007020923452025532.jpg&byrail:3:Guilford Maybe a game of ‘Chicken’ that went too far?
And the Trainmaster's last words were.... "I'm sure that line's OK. See, it's marked right here on this road map!!!"
Ooooooooooooooooo... Somebody's gonna have a red face over this one. :embarassed: Or worse... mg: Boxcab E50
No. Wait. I read about this somewhere. It's their new express train- The "Trail Blazer." Which boldy goes where no train has ever gone before..... Boxcab E50
I'm wondering if they need to run something down the line every so often (as a requirement) if they want to keep it designated as an active right-of-way. So the MEC geep becomes a sacrificial lamb of sorts? Why else would they attempt it?
I'm curious as to why they'd be so silly as to even attempt such a move. mg: If anyone happens to find out more...? Boxcab E50
Ironically enough, this was not the first time that Pan-Am had derailed there. Check this photo out from 2004: http://photos.nerail.org/showpic/?2...LE&PAGE=13&BOOL=ALL&SEARCHSTRING=Cambridge+MA Is Pan-Am (or whatever they are calling themselves this week) still very hostile toward railfans? Robyn
When I was shooting GoofyRail action last winter, I didn't have any problems, but I also stayed off RR property.Long as you're not on RR property, they can do nothing legally to keep you from taking photos.
That looks like some of very first attempts at trackwork when I was a kid Can't believe they actually thought the loco would be able to navigate that track.
I guess you never got to look at some of the Milwaukee roads tracks out here in the NorthWestmg: The only time the locomotives got to travel faster than 25 mph is when they ran on the Milw/UP track between Seattle and Tacoma Jct or on someone else's main line
Well, that's not quite true... Things only really went down hill after the winter thaws of 1978. And even after that they had plenty of 50mph track. After the Fall of 1979, they'd ceased to do all track maintenance, unless the track was totally impassable. You might liken that "Pan Am" photo to their trackage in the little yard at Stacy Street. Boxcab E50
They Did it Again! Stuck again at almost the same spot. Note the ends of the ties sticking out of the ground towards the rear of the loco. http://photos.nerail.org/showpic/?photo=20070306080321445.jpg&order=bydate&page=1&key=
Yah know, if they keep on trying, they might just get a train through there. However at this rate I doubt it. Seems to me it would be less expensive to do some maintenance than to have to constantly be out there rescuing derailed trains.
