I don't know if anyone knows anything about it. But Union Pacific has re-ballasted, re-signaled, and spent millions on the Colorado Joint Line. I would just like to know why? Im kinda hoping for an increase in traffic. But im not sure how that could happen in today's econemy. UP has no reason to need to do this aswell. For they relaid their entire mainline in 2004 with CWR and concrete ties. PLEASE HELP, ITS DRIVING ME CRAZY
From UP's Site - July 1, 2009 http://www.uprr.com/newsinfo/releases/capital_investment/2009/0701_colo-trt.shtml
UP wants 100 % CTC in the next 10 to 15 yrs so they can try and get 1 man crews on their freight trains. Moves have been made to up grade the old WP Winnemucca sub with microwave communication for the CTC signal system. Without having read the link Darren posted that would be my guess. Greg
Well the article just gave a broad reason "strengthening the track infrastructure across its more than 32,000-mile system", however, its a fairly short article and has some cool facts about the TRT train used for the project. Good read.
