What decoders to use?

I have recently converted to DCC and would like some opinion on what decoders work best for particular models. For instance, can the Digitrax DH123 decoder be used on Athearn RTR locos (CF-7, GP-35) without having to worry about blown bulbs?
I am about to install the DH123PS in two older P2K SD-7's. They have the Plug and Play feature. IS there any other modification necessary? I have a newer SD-7 and there is a wire that should be clipped when converting to DCC.
I have three Athearn Genesis SD-45-2's that I need to install decoders. I have been told that these need a resistor in order to preserve the bulbs. Does anyone make a decoder that addresses this problem?
Any finally I have several P2k E-8's that I wish to install decoders. The newer ones have the plug but what decoder will allow the mars light to function? (the dh163?) The older units will require a little more work.

Is there a site on the web that deals specifically in decoder installations? Thanks for any help.

    AFN,
I don't know the answers to your specific questions, as I model in N and most everything I have done is PnP... Hopefully this will bump it up and someone will know.

Thanks....I realize there are several options to chose from. I am just looking for some ideas. I have been installing the DH123's in most of my "plug n' plays" but have many P2k's that will need to be hard wired.

    Check Tony's Train Exchange: http://dcctrains.com/index.html
There's a ton of info on DCC in general & products available from a variety of manufacturers. NCE makes some specifically for P2Ks.
