Yesterday I was able to pace a 93 car UP manifest train between Necedah, WI and Wyeville, WI on the Wyeville Sub. This section of Track is still jointed rail, those 93 cars and 3 SD40-2s heading west at 30mph made a such a enormous racket! I forgot how loud a heavy manifest on jointed rail is. A nice treat to the chase was UP 3047, a former CNW unit complete with bell on the nose. If you get a chance check out this area, beautiful bridge in Necedah, crossing a river and the CN. Brad
One man's racket is another man's beautiful music Lotsa cars on jointed rail used to be the norm in railroading. Add to thsat the occasional flat wheel (the KA-CHUNK KA-CHUNK KA-CHUNK when the flat spot hits the rail), the creaks & groans of the cars, the zzzzzinnnnggg of the wheels along the rail, the sound of the locomotives.........man, that ain't racket, that's music to this old railfan's ears.
Oh you mean NOISE type racket. I thought this was going to be another thread about internet auction type SCAM type racket.
