This October, after attending the CAF AIRSHO 2006 in Midland, Texas, on the weekend of the 7th, my father and I still had an extra day, so we went railfanning through West Texas! We photographed two shortlines, the Texas-New Mexico in Kermit, Texas, and the Pecos Valley Southern in Pecos, Texas. (TNM not shown below.) Also, we railfanned Union Pacific over Paisano Pass in the Davis Mtns. on the Sunset Route. Pecos Valley Southern Non-functional PVS 70-tonner #7 at Pecos, Texas: PVS SW1200 #9 at Pecos:
Union Pacific Railroad - Paisano Pass After gawking at the horrible shape of the PVS roadbed and track, we drove south to Marfa, where we first encountered the UP's Sunset Route to El Paso. Driving from Marfa, up to the pass, and then past it, we finally spotted a train heading up into the pass. We caught up with on the other side of the pass: Union Pacific SD70M #4875 at Paisano, Texas: Union Pacific C40-8 #9064 at Paisano, Texas: CSX SD70M #4748 at Paisano, Texas:
Friscobob, no, no TNM power, just car and track shots. After we we caught that train just west of Paisano, we headed east, through Alpine, where on the outskirts of town we caught this train: Union Pacific SD70M 4698 leading train up into Alpine, Texas:
